My original reservation was for a mid-size SUV, and I was upgraded for free to a Chevrolet Equinox. Unfortunately, after about 16 hours of driving, the check engine light came on along with a “service transmission” message. The Equinox was practically new with just over 3,000 miles, so I’m not sure what the issue was, but I understand these things can happen. When I contacted Alamo, it took a little while to get through, so I decided to drive back to the Mobile Airport (about 50 minutes away). Once there, the staff was extremely helpful and quickly switched me into a van. This turned out to be a blessing because my mother had recently had knee surgery, and the van made it much easier for her to get in and out. The extra space was perfect for us, and I appreciated that I was upgraded again at no extra charge. The entire exchange took less than 10 minutes. I especially want to thank Ms. Carol and another kind lady with short red hair for their professionalism and great service. Even though I had an issue with the first car, Alamo handled it quickly and made sure we were taken care of. For constructive feedback: originally, we had planned to use the vehicle to drive my mother to my brother’s in Jacksonville, Florida, which is about a five-and-a-half-hour trip. Thankfully, the problem happened a couple of days before we left. Had it happened the morning of our departure, it could have created a much bigger issue. In the future, it might help if newer cars were run locally for a few thousand miles first to work out any potential kinks—or if there were an option to get a quick replacement delivered when customers are farther away. That said, I understand things happen, and this experience won’t stop me from using Alamo again. Overall, I was very satisfied with how the situation was handled, and I will continue to rent from Alamo in the future.
