How does AMA's towing service work?
Once you're a member, it's as simple as contacting us by phone, online or on our app, giving your info to one of our agents and waiting for one of our highly-trained tow truck service vehicle operators to arrive at your location.
Will AMA tow an unregistered car?
Towing an unregistered vehicle is available as part of our Convenience Tow Service, which is available once per membership year for Plus and Premier members.
How far will AMA tow my car?
Your maximum towing distance is determined by your membership level. For Basic members it's 5 km, Plus members it's 160 km, and Premier members can be towed for free up to 320 km. once per membership year.
Where will AMA tow my car?
We will tow your vehicle free in Alberta or anywhere in North America within your membership distance limit. If your preferred location is outside of this area, you will be charged a per kilometer rate.
How much does it usually cost to tow a car in Alberta?
The average cost of a one-time tow in Edmonton and Calgary is about $115, which is the same amount you'll pay for an AMA Basic membership that comes with 4 roadside assistance calls and all of the other benefits of membership.
Does AMA provide flatbed towing?
As part of our towing service, we do provide flatbed towing, but you must specifically request it when you contact us. Otherwise, we will provide the nearest tow truck that can safely tow your vehicle.
Does AMA deliver fuel?
AMA's Fuel Delivery Service is available to all members. It's totally free for Plus members and higher. Basic members just have to pay market price for the gas.
How does AMA free fuel delivery work?
If you've run out of gas while out on the road, contact us by phone or online and we'll deliver enough fuel or tow you to the nearest service station. Are tire plugs an option to repair my flat tire?
Due to the number of variables involved in being able to effectively assess whether or not a tire plug is a safe and effective option, AMA does not offer tire plugs to repair flat tires. However, we can instead tow you to your preferred service station within your towing distance. AMA members who choose Kal Tire will get $15.00 off their flat tire repair (regular price $28 - $33). For those AMA Members who purchased their tires at Kal Tire, the flat repair will be provided for free as part of Kal Tire’s Customer Care Plan.
Please note that not all damaged tires can be repaired. Kal Tire’s technicians will assess the damage to your tire and determine if it can be fixed.
What do I do when I get a flat tire?
You should swap it with a new tire as soon as possible. Spares are only meant to get you around for a few days until a regular tire can be installed. We can replace it with your spare, or we can tow you (within your towing distance) to a retailer to have a new tire installed.
Will AMA put the spare tire on for me?
Yes, our operator will be able to swap your flat tire for a spare if that's what you need. If required, we can tow your car to a tire shop within your towing distance. Being an AMA member means having choices when faced with a flat!
Can I get roadside assistance outside of Alberta?
Yes. As an AMA member you can call for roadside assistance anywhere in North America, as well as multiple countries around the globe. Visit our Affiliated Clubs page to learn more.
What if I have more than one flat tire?
Assuming you do not have enough spares to swap every flat tire, in this instance we will tow you to a tire service shop with distance based on your level of coverage.
What if I don't have a spare tire?
In these instances, we will tow you to a tire service shop within your towing distance based on your membership level.
Does AMA work around the world?

What are the differences in between the levels of coverage?
The biggest difference and greatest savings benefit, is around the coverage for towing distances. The coverage that you need may be dependent on your driving habits and the types of vehicles that you own or operate. We have coverage for members that travel longer distances, take road trips or drive motorcycles or pull holiday trailers. Regardless of the coverage you choose, all members have access to the products, services and all our 165,000 AMA reward partner locations.
How far will AMA tow my car for a convenience tow?
Eligible passenger vehicles and motorcycles are covered to a maximum towing distance of 50 km. A per/km fee will be charged beyond that distance.
Does AMA tow electric vehicles?
Definitely. AMA proudly provides towing services for EVs. As a member, you can contact AMA directly for electric vehicle towing services. Even if you’re outside of Alberta, your membership travels with you so you can still call and we’ll get you help where you are.
How do you tow an electric vehicle?
Our members can use any of their five annual Roadside Assistance calls whenever they need the help of our comprehensively trained towing professionals. Whether you’re in Calgary, Edmonton, or anywhere in North America, we’ll be there to help you. If you’re not an AMA member, simply call a professional to assess the situation and help.
How many kilometers can you tow a classic car?
Your maximum towing distance with AMA membership is determined by your membership level. AMA Basic membership includes towing up to 5 km. AMA Plus and Plus RV membership includes towing up to 160 km. AMA Premier and Premier RV includes towing up to 320 km.
