I have never been so disappointed in AMA as I was yesterday. I am a Plus Membership and was told they would ONLY honor 50kms as there is a crisis in Alberta. No notification has been sent to my email as a customer about the changes, nor a credit or reduction in my premium as a result & when I needed them to take me 86kms refused. Then we're going to refuse 56kms. I escalated call as a result of a toddler with cancer we needed to get their car seat to. 3 people were helping with a combined paid memberships of over 60+yrs with AMA all Plus members. Shame, shame on you AMA.

*Disappointing experience at AMA Manning Crossing. I visited to renew my wife’s vehicle registration with all required documents. We share the same address and AMA membership, and I have completed renewals under the same circumstances before without any issues. I was told my wife had to be physically present. Minutes later, a nearby non-AMA registry completed the renewal in about three minutes using the same documents. Due to this inconsistent service, I will be cancelling my AMA membership at the end of my term.

Terrible experience, having all the documents the.woman asked me.for unnecessary documentation. Having a document about to expire, she is asking me nonsense, all the documents were valid and could be easily verified by the government agency. This is the second time that I have such a horrible experience here. The first time was when try to register a truck. I guess first shame on them this second time shame on me! If could give -5 negative I would. This blonde lady lacks of common sense.

Edit: Just after posting my review, a clearly fake or clone account suddenly appeared just to put a review on how “fair” this examiner was even when their “daughter” also did not pass. That alone is extremely suspicious and only reinforces how dishonest this whole situation feels.
I took my driving lessons with AMA so I decided to book my road test with them at Manning as well. Unfortunately, the experience with my examiner Karan was extremely unfair and frustrating.
He gave me multiple points that simply didn’t make sense. He said I merged onto the highway too slowly even though it was snowing and windy, there were cars directly in front of me, and I merged safely without interrupting traffic. Then he told me I was driving too slow on the highway, even though the cars ahead of me were only going around 80 km/hr and I was keeping a safe 2-car distance. He even blamed me for slow driving when a large truck tailgated me, changed lanes, and passed four cars in my lane at once. I have no idea how that was my fault.
He also claimed I was stopping too close to the car in front at red lights, but I could clearly see their back wheels every single time. His seat was positioned further back than mine, so maybe adjust your seat before calling it too close. Same thing, he noted I was following the cars in front too closely which I am terrified of doing and could never. Ten hours with me and my instructor not once has seen me tailgate anyone, so I honestly have no idea where that came from. MAYBE ADJUST YOUR SEAT PROPERLY?
Then he marked me for speeding on the main road, which is completely untrue. I watched my speed constantly because my instructor drilled that into me. The fastest I reached was 63 km/hr, and that only happened because the road dipped downhill for a moment. I released the accelerator right away. And honestly, how can I be too slow on the highway but too fast on a main road in the same test. That logic doesn’t even add up.
He also asked me to perform a parallel park. My first attempt was interrupted because there were cars right behind me, so I had to stop the process and let them pass. On my second attempt, as I was about to finish, he suddenly asked what direction my wheels should be. I answered straight. Then he immediately followed up with “Are your wheels straight?” Of course they weren’t YET because I was moving the car and would be straightening them at that exact moment. I parked beautifully on my second attempt, yet he still marked me as failing parallel parking. He never told me during the test that I had failed it, never explained why, and never mentioned a third attempt which should have been allowed if he was going to count it as unsuccessful. Did I mention he had me do an uphill park RIGHT BEHIND a pedestrian crosswalk? Did it perfectly fortunately so nothing to criticize me that time.
He also wrote that I didn’t know how to use the wipers, which is another false claim. I could see the road clearly, and when he asked me to wipe, I did it immediately.
I even spent a good fifteen minutes after the test trying to explain my view to him, but he dismissed everything I said and insisted he was right. Asking me to speed up on the highway while other drivers were going slow was completely unsafe, and I wouldn’t even have my dashcam activated if that happened because I was asked to disable it as “it’s not allowed to record”.
The only thing I’ll admit from him is the exit circle because I wasn’t familiar with it. Everything else felt unreasonable.
My drive was smooth, within the speed limit and had no sudden stops or unsafe moments. But since they don’t allow dashcams or any type of recording, they can make whatever judgment they want and we’re left with no real way to dispute it. And yes, you also have to sign your report first before taking the car out for the test and they will fill their notes in later. 💁🏻♀️
