Called to inquire about a battery replacement price on my wife’s 2018 highlander. The person on the phone was useless and said that I need to book an appointment and the person in the truck has all kinds of batteries and he provided all the prices. She cannot over the phone. This was totally false. The tech that arrived showed me the std price sheet and I even gave her the battery size to help. It was so clear my 12 yr old could have given me the price.
Let me start by saying this is a job I would normally do myself but I was sick with the flu. The vehicle still start and ran but battery was old and getting weak.
We get multiple texts and in one it provides a battery replacement comparison chart and how ama is the best choice. On the chart looks great. Free installation price is 280ish. I figured right on I may get some use out of this membership. I figured I was getting and AGM style battery for that price
So we wait……he arrives. I ask how much he charges and he says 280. I said oh ok (what I expected). Is it an agm battery? and he says no and agm is over 400 and ama downs carry that battery. I said oh I read that because I have an auto start/stop they are recommended for this highlander. And agm is under 300 at both Costco and Canadian tire So I ask what type of battery is it. It’s the std 24f 650cca. This is a 169.00 battery at Costco and the Costco is a better 700cca. The same battery (650 cca) is still under 200 at Canadian tire. They even have a superior 750 cca for less than 200 at Canadian tire.
I told him not interested your services are far from free and I pay for a membership annually.
If the person in the phone could have actually done their job properly and woudl not have wasted anyone’s time (mine and the technician). And used one of my 4 call outs to ama that we get with the membership.
I think I’m done paying ama it’s a joke. It’s more of a hassle any time I’ve used it when it’s supposed to be a convenient. Biggest scam going. They basically hope your an idiot and over charge you for a n inferior product
