I used AMA exactly once in my ten years as a member, to tow my motorcycle. They didn’t have a suitable truck available, but assured me they would reimburse me for the cost of using a third party service, which they afterwards refused to do. All I have to show for my decade as an AMA member is a $350 towing bill. In my opinion, AMA is overrated and unnecessary. What use is an insurance service which refuses to cover claims?

AMA has lost the plot. They now require everything to go through their "system." I have made 3 calls about my car battery since February. Looking at them now I feel foolish. I've been an AMA customer for 25+ years. I trusted them. I had just had the front light/panel replaced, so there was room for doubt as to what the problem was. At the first call the response was quick. My sister and I asked about whether a new battery was needed. We were told "No, YOU JUST NEED TO RUN IT FOR 12 HOURS." I asked 3 times if he was serious. YES. So, like a fool, I did. A week later, it won't start. Battery. I ask specifically to test for what else it could be since second guy said nothing wrong with the battery. He OFFERED to boost the truck in the drive. For free, I asked? Oh, yes! He said. It was logged as another call. He INSISTED my battery was fine. It would not start again a week later. I had it towed to my mechanic. My mechanic sent video showing the battery needed to be replaced. He pointed out that the AMA tracker I have in order to get cheap insurance drains my battery at twice the rate. No one at AMA has ever mentioned that. AMA refuses to take any responsibility. Their system is allowing calls to be recorded on vehicles that are not licensed or registered on Alberta and with no ownership. Someone is making money from these calls somehow. Now I have an emergency expense. Another one that my pension just won't cover. I have used up all my Roadside Assistance and their tracker does more than track. Consumers have zero protection and now we have one less reliable organization.
