This is not a zoo. It's a rescue and sanctuary. It's a beautiful property. Also, it is sacred ground with Native American mounds. The staff takes such good care of the animals and the grounds. You can stop any of the zookeepers and ask them questions and they are engaging. I had great conversations with them on my first recent visit. I will be back in the Spring. Shalom is my new favorite place to go and unwind with nature.

What a great adventure for seniors & families. Miles of gravel treelined lanes with plenty of picnic tables for resting & prolonged animal viewing. Golf carts (seat 4) available. Arrive within an hour of opening if possible. Plenty of knowledgeable staff to enhance your experience. The animals are alert, healthy, and viewed in natural settings.

Great family zoo. You can walk thru, drive your car thru or rent a golf cart. It's a 4 mile trail. 3 adults, 1 child & 2 bags of feed cost $74. To rent a golf cart It's $45. more. The animals all have large enclosures. They are all beautiful animals. We loved it.

A very nice zoo. Very well kept paths the animals look very healthy. The only down side is when cars are trying to go around a parked golf cart on the path or vice versa. Not wide enough for cars to park but overall was a very pleasant day.

This was my first time going to Shalom zoo, and I can't recommend it enough. It is a stunning zoo that leaves you feeling as if you were walking through the actual wild and seeing all of these animals in their natural environments. All of the animals look happy and well cared for, they have ample room and their space isn't concrete and fake trees, it is actually nature so that they are living as close to being in their natural habitat as possible. The only complaint I would have is that the use of the golf carts by other zoo goers - in my opinion, as well as the opinion of the friend I went with - takes away from the experience a bit. For example, you can be standing there watching an animal up close - something you might not get a chance to do at other zoos and definitely not in the wild - and then someone comes driving up in a golf cart and scares the animal, then the experience is ruined. However, I do understand why they are provided because it is a lot of walking for someone that may not be able to walk that far. The animals that you are able to interact with in the petting zoo are very friendly and affectionate. The welcome building/gift shop is such a beautiful place and the prices for admission and the merchandise are very reasonable. The added perk of a free ice cream at the end of your visit is a very nice touch. Overall, my experience was great. I look forward to going back again as long as their crappy neighbors don't get them shut down.
