There were no legs at the minifig section, only white dresses. The heads, body, and hats were moslty empty as well with only a few options. None of the minifig camera stations worked. The building sections were not maintained or separated properly. It was impossible to find wheels or things for cars.
The duplo section had broken games. The rocket section machines kept crashing. The soft play area was good. The movies were extremely loud.
The photo machines, which we paid a separate fee for, lost our photos and there was only like two spots for photos. Don't waste your money.
Cafe food was terrible and the selection was lacking. They were out of mostly everything.
Other reviews make it sound like this place was good at one time. Don't waste your money.

My oh my has this place fallen from grace. I came here with the kids a few times over the past couple of years, and things were normally well-stocked. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth nowadays.
None of the building areas have any variety. You can tell that each station is supposed to feel different, but it’s the same pieces throughout. Thinking of building a car? Good luck sharing the three remaining wheels with everybody else in the attraction. The first thing you do when you enter is build a Lego person, but the only leg pieces available are white dresses. Most of the remaining bricks leave your hands feeling sticky and grimey after twenty minutes. The large Lego builds look like they haven’t been dusted or cleaned in months, and overall, it feels like no time or money has been put into the guest experience for quite some time.
The most redeeming qualities are the ride and the model building team (although our favorite guy with the hotdog and the banana hasn’t been there the past few times we’ve been).
I don’t know if there was a change in leadership or brick refilling policies over the past year, but I can’t see this place surviving without a major overhaul. It’s a shame because this used to be such a great place to burn a few hours with the kids.
(And if management is reading this, please spare me the ChatGPT generated response that you seem to do with every other comment)

Underwhelming to the nth degree. Entertaining with limits. The ride is good for young kids. Most of the play areas are ok, but nothing exciting. The self-play and self-build just don't have the right pieces to make it exciting. The most impressive piece is the pre-built display with mechanical and lighting, homage to DC. But can't do much with it. The cafe sucks, brews Starbucks coffee, which is most disappointing, and the food options haven't been updated since 1991.

Frequently Asked Questions About LEGO® Discovery Center Washington, D.C.
What is LEGO® Discovery Center?
LEGO® Discovery Center offers a highly interactive indoor LEGO® play experience where families are free to play, explore, craft, and laugh together. The 32,000-square-foot family attraction features 12 zones to discover, including DUPLO® Park, Building Adventure, Mini World, Imagination Express, Make Your Mini-Figure, Creative Club, Lego Tree of Imagination, The Lego Café, Heroes Adventure, 4D Cinema, The Workshop, and Space Mission. Numerous creative workshops will be planned throughout the year with our brand new team of Master Model Builders led by Andrew. LEGO® Discovery Center is owned by Merlin Entertainments, a global leader in location-based entertainment (with brands such as LEGOLAND®, Madame Tussauds, and SEA LIFE Centers).
How will LEGO® Discovery Center be different from the current LEGOLAND® Discovery Centers?
LEGO® Discovery Center is next-generation LEGO fun where children can let their imagination and creativity run wild with LEGO® bricks. They can find inspiration in the Creative Workshops led by our Master Model Builders and in the Creative Club, where our Playmakers will help bring their imagination come to life, including a reimagined Space Mission where families can create their own rocket and scan it to send into digital space. We also kept our smallest builders in mind - in DUPLO PARK, children and their families can play and discover, solve puzzles, build with LEGO® DUPLO® and walk along the DUPLO duck pond.
Can children visit the center without an adult?
Children aged 17 and under must be accompanied by at least one adult aged 18 and older to enter.
Why are adults without children not allowed to visit LEGO® Discovery Center?
LEGO® Discovery Center is not a theme park but a small indoor attraction designed from the perception of a child between 3 and 12 years old. It provides a safe and fun environment for families with younger children to have fun together. Many of the designed facilities are therefore not designed or suitable for older children or adults. Such as the gaming areas or some attractions.
To ensure a consistently child-friendly play environment, we do not allow groups of adults, adult couples or adults alone regardless of ethnic background, gender or physical condition, who are not accompanied by a child/children. This policy was created in consultation with our visitors and we believe that we have taken an appropriate and practical position that matches the nature of the attraction and the visitor profile.
Having said that, we are well aware that the popularity of the LEGO® brick cannot be limited and that fans exist of all ages and abilities. That is also the reason that we regularly organize “adults only” events in which certain areas of the center are open, such as MINI WORLD, and additional activities such as presentations or lessons are organized to compensate for adults not using many parts of the attraction.
What is the best time to visit?
Generally, the LEGO® Discovery Center is quietest after 2 pm.
Like any popular attraction, we have to limit the number of guests at any one time. The best way of ensuring your child’s place is by booking tickets in advance! Please be advised that all ticket sales are non-refundable. The average visit takes approximately 2 hours, but once inside you can stay as long as you like!
Are visits guided?
We encourage families to interact together and explore their imagination and creativity through a world of open play, and therefore visits are not guided. The typical visit takes 2-3 hours, but you are welcome to stay for as long as you wish.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
We do not allow outside food or beverage unless caring for babies or food allergies in children.
LEGO® Discovery Center encourages guests to enjoy deliciously fresh foods and snacks, and ice-cold sodas in our LEGO® Café.
