We visited on Monday March 9 because there was no school in our district. We were excited because its been awhile, maybe a few years since we visited the Hogle Zoo. It was a beautiful day in high 60s low 70s. We were disappointed that alot of exhibits were under some type of construction. Had we seen this warning on the website or seen signs before we bought our day pass near entrance, we wouldbe saved our money for a better day. No Elephants, Rhinoceros, Sea Lions, Polar Bears, Alligators, in their exhibits, maybe more than I can recall because it was under construction. Well, Alligators had a sign that said kept inside during winter. Snack shops closed, at least the one near Grizzly Bears. Shall we not have planned to come on a Monday? I enjoy coming here and being outdoors, just bummed at the attractions. Better luck next time.

Has to be one of the most depressing zoos ive ever been to. The animals looked soo sad, heads drooped making awful noises. One of the warthogs had a massive hole in his neck and was badly bleeding. When I brought it up to one of the staff they had no care. Every animal is at the back of their cages/fenced in area, the noise of kids taunting them and parents doing nothing with signs everywhere saying not to yell or use flash at the animals, did not help. The enclosers are unhealthy living conditions, for example the giraffe encloser had no room for them to run around, and no room for them to lay/sit down without getting covered in dirt/mud. Outside of that 45 dollars for 2 tickets and no student discount is insane. Definitely not coming back anytime soon.

My kids really love going here and so do I! They have a lot of new attractions that focus on new and different species. They have added more educational tools and opportunities for interaction with the animals. They have plenty of places to eat or get snacks. They have demonstrations and performances with some of the animals. There are a few different playground areas for kids and fun interactive domes for you to get inside the animal enclosures. I grew up in Utah and have seen the transformation the zoo has made to ensure a better life for the animals. I have fond memories growing up but looking back it used to be a very sad place for these animals to be living. Now they have many more free range enclosures and have changed the layout of the whole place. Different animals have come and gone, but the zoo definitely has had a glow up and its definitely worth a visit when you are in the area. They also have a daily schedule during the warm months and special attractions for holidays such as Boolights for Halloween and Zoolights for Christmas! Definitely check it out!

They had babies! Baby giraffes, gorillas and orengatans. Unfortuntely as its off season there were many things missing. The girrafs were inside their enclosure so we didnt see them. They no longer have rhinos and the seal exibit was under construction and most of their restaurants/snack places were closed, which was a dissapointment. Definitely go when its warmer and more open season. We went in March.

Hogle Zoo is a fun and well-kept spot to spend a few hours in Salt Lake City. The setting is beautiful, especially with the mountains in the background, which makes walking through the zoo feel unique compared to others I’ve visited. The pathways are easy to navigate, and the layout makes it simple to see a lot without feeling rushed. The animal exhibits are thoughtfully designed, with highlights like the African Savanna area where you can see giraffes and other animals in spacious habitats. Many of the enclosures feel open and natural, which makes the experience more enjoyable and engaging. There’s a good variety of animals, so it keeps things interesting as you move from section to section. It’s especially great for families, with interactive areas and spots to take a break. Food options are decent, though a bit pricey, which is typical for attractions like this. On busy days it can get crowded, but overall it’s clean, organized, and well run. If you’re in Salt Lake City and enjoy wildlife or are looking for a relaxed outdoor activity, Hogle Zoo is definitely worth a visit.
