I thought visiting in July was going to be miserable but I was pleasantly surprised. The zoo has plenty of tree throughout, offering shade for visitors and animals. And there’s also several huge misting fans available. For the little ones, there’s a small water park to run through the fountains to cool off. The animals seem well cared for and loved. Also, one thing I appreciate about the Hogle Zoo is the educational atmosphere.

Love the zoo! My 2 year old loves the train rides and the seal show. Great things to do/shows to watch depending on the day. Definitely worth getting a membership - we even got one so our nanny can take our son. Weekends can make parking difficult (can always get a spot might just need to park far away from the entrance) but it’s not usually too crowded once you’re in the zoo. Plenty of shade even in the hot summer months and a splash pad for the kiddos as well.

A smaller AZA zoo. Really enjoyed all the activities and learning features they put on. Want to add for future families, the splash park is not super big but large enough for kids to cool down in. The park section is right next to it- meaning if you’re trying to avoid it- it may be hard.
But loved that we could see almost every animal.

We had such a great time visiting Hogle Zoo while we were in Salt Lake City! One of my favorite things about this zoo was the beautiful mountain views surrounding it. It made the whole experience feel even more special.
The zoo was clean, easy to walk through, and we really appreciated all the misting stations throughout the park since it was a warm day. The kids loved all the animals, especially getting to see the tiger eating and hearing it roar! We also enjoyed seeing the baby leopard.
A bonus for us was being able to use our Toledo Zoo membership through the AZA reciprocal program, which helped us save on admission.
If you’re visiting Salt Lake City, I’d definitely recommend adding Hogle Zoo to your list. It was a fun day for our family, and we’d love to come back again someday! 🦒🏔️🐅

I enjoyed myself until the very end. I was leaving the zoo and stopped for a moment by the entrance to wait for my dad and rest a minute since I was in pain. The security guard approached me and asked for my wrist band. I was unaware of a later event and showed him my tickets. I told him we are leaving. He then rudely told me to get out. I didnt get the chance to tell him im waiting for my dad whose had four strokes. I decided to wait in the gift shop for my dad. The guard started following me and stood by me in the gift shop. I saw my dad outside and I was afraid to help him due to the security guard. Luckily my husband was there to get my dad. I understand it's his job to get people out but he could of been more respectful about it.
The zoo is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Note that on November 27, 2025, it will be open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and it is closed on December 25, 2025, and January 1, 2026.
