I’m not usually one to take something like this to publicly, but I’ve run out of options.
I’ve been trying since June to get back items I loaned to Nicci Markos, owner of Moss Rose Event Center.
When we were planning my best friend’s baby shower, Nicci said she handled everything—the décor, setup, food, etc. We wanted a specific backdrop style because we didn’t like the standard banner backdrops. I asked if she could get the arch stands and covers to create the look we wanted, but she didn’t want to purchase them because she had already bought a banner we didn’t want. Since I wanted my best friend to have the baby shower she envisioned, I gladly purchased the arches and covers myself.
The baby shower was on May 2. At the end of the event, Nicci asked if she could borrow my arches for a high school reunion she was hosting on June 6. I agreed, assuming she would return them after her event.
Since then, she has never once reached out to return my items. Instead, I've had to contact her multiple times—at least three times since June—and every time there has been another excuse, usually that she was out of town. Last week she told me she'd be back this week so we could coordinate a time, but once again she said something came up and she couldn't meet me or even a family member to return them.
After months of getting nowhere, I asked for a $100 reimbursement, which is what I paid for the items I'm apparently never getting back. Her response was that she "can't afford" to refund me. Meanwhile, she's been traveling frequently and continuing to host events. I know what our event cost, and I know the general price range of the events she continues to book. The issue doesn't seem to be the money.
What also doesn't make sense is that she told me she has to "look for" my items. Why would you need to look for them? They should have been returned immediately after your June 6 event, not packed away with your own equipment.
At this point, I don't even want the items back. After having them for months, I have no idea what condition they're in or how many events they've been used for. I simply want to be reimbursed the $100 I spent, and instead of resolving the situation, she's chosen to completely ghost me.
The saddest part is that before all of this happened, I would have gladly recommended Nicci and Moss Rose Event Center to anyone looking for an event venue. I had no issues with the baby shower itself and would have happily sent people her way. Unfortunately, the way this has been handled afterward has completely changed my opinion. If someone can't trust they'll get their own property back after loaning it in good faith, I can't honestly recommend doing business with them.
I truly didn't want to make this public because I don't enjoy hurting someone's business or reputation. But after months of excuses, unanswered messages, and no resolution, I feel like I've been left with no other choice. I'm simply asking to be reimbursed for the items I purchased and loaned out in good faith.
Photo attached is her commenting on the Facebook review. She then made a post on her business account but blocked me from it. But still that did not do anything to help her business and only goes to show how horrible she is.
