Went for the Grits festival enjoyed the other attractions. Aside from the mill and t-shirts the Grits were not very much in evidence while I was there. There were vendors, live music, and the permanent attractions like the mill and petroglyphs to make it worth the admission but the lack of focus on Grits cost them a star. Definitely worth a stop and the folks working there were all very nice and enthusiastic.

Very cool! Lots of history there. We happened to go on a day they were having a festival and it was $5 per person (normally free) but it was well worth it!

Great day to be in Pickens, went to try some grits at the festival but they only had two contestants so no tastings. Great music, vendors and historians that demonstrated and talked about the mill.

This place is amazing! Took the blacksmithing course with Kevin and he was very knowledgeable about the subject and was able to accommodate true beginners to more advanced individuals all within the same class! Truly worth every penny!

Interesting site with the relocated cabins. We were there in the middle of the week and no demonstrations were going on so three of the buildings were locked up. I understand but a little disappointed. You could walk upstairs in the mill and see how the machinery was put together- the ceiling fans tied in with the long belts, etc. Just listening to the wheel turn and the water flow was peaceful. We had the site almost all to ourselves. My wife liked the chickens and peeps scratching in the yard. If you are close, it's free and interesting to check out the old buildings. Maybe on the weekends they have docents around and a blacksmith in the shuttered shop- would make a better experience.
