Introductory Program
Designed to give you a fun and easy start into the seven major social dances.
You will be introduced to the basic step of the waltz, foxtrot, tango, rumba, swing/shag, cha cha, and salsa!
Introductory Course:
• 2, 25-minute private lessons
• 1, Newcomers group class
• 1, Social Dance Party
Private Lessons
Private instruction, with one or more key teachers, gives you the specialized and personalized attention necessary to look and feel great on the dance floor, while developing the ability to lead or follow any partner. This is where we perfect and polish your dancing while moving at your own pace.
Private Lessons can be scheduled Mon-Fri between 2 and 8:45 pm.
Group Classes
Group classes are a great way to improve your ability as an independent dancer! Come to class to learn how to dance the patterns on your own, and get more out of your private lessons!
Class schedule changes monthly, so please visit our Calendar pages to find out what classes are available this month.
Social Dance Parties
Practice sessions are a great practical application of what you are learning in your program because they complete the lesson information taught in our private and group lessons. Learning is one thing, but making the material work in a live setting while dancing with different people is quite another.
The practice session will put everything together as well as aid in music identification and help you to learn not to run into other people on the dance floor. You can meet other students and practice your leading and following skills in a fun, relaxed environment! Teachers can tailor their private sessions based on how they see their students progressing.

I have been taking Ballroom and Rhythm dance lessons for almost 28 years. During that time, I have had lessons and coaching’s with US and World Champions. The past 13 years I
have taken lessons at the only World Class Dance studio in the Charleston Area, International Ballroom.
IBDS has the most experienced instructors in Competitive, Social and Performance(Showcase) dancing in the Lowcountry. They are truly a well-rounded dance school from having professional Ballet trained staff to teach how ballet fundamentals benefit ballroom and Latin dancing to having their teachers go through professional training with Shag Champions (Sam and Lisa West).
IBDS constantly brings in the some of the best coaches in the country to train the staff and students on the latest developments in dancing and choreography. Among them are
legends in the ballroom Marlanne Nicole, Linda Dean, Rufus Dustin and Edward Simon.
IBDS has 3 Showcases during the year. They have multiple parties every month. They have fun trips to various venues around the country and the world. Twice a year they bring in
nationally recognized adjudicators to critique students in their Trophy Match. They also take competitive students to some of the most prestigious dance competitions in the country, including the United States Dancesport Championships, The Ohio Star Ball, Millennium Dancesport, Heritage Dancesport, Florida Star Ball and Wisconsin State Dance Championships among many others.
Ballroom dancing is a great hobby! I encourage everyone to give it a try and if you want to go to the best studio in the Lowcountry there is only one choice “International Ballroom Dance
Studios of Charleston and Mount Pleasant".

Taking dance lessons for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made, and we would do it all over again. We had Scott as our instructor, and from day one he made us feel completely comfortable and at ease. He is such an amazing teacher and made the entire experience so much fun.
Truthfully, I definitely needed more help than my partner, but Scott was patient, encouraging, and somehow made every lesson feel exciting instead of stressful. Every single week we genuinely looked forward to going to our lessons together.
We originally signed up for a regular package, but ended up upgrading and adding more lessons because we loved the experience so much.
I would 1000% recommend coming here if you need any type of dance lessons, especially if you’re preparing for a wedding. Not only did we learn so much, but it also became such a fun part of our engagement season together.
My partner already promised to take me back every year for our anniversary, and honestly, I can’t wait.

Christy B. is an absolute dance miracle worker. I honestly can't recommend her enough. I am someone who didn't know about dancing, care about dancing, or really want to dance.... but had to dance in front of 500+ people. Christy took me there with care and compassion, energy and enthusiasm, fun and creativity every step of the way. 18 lessons later, I was super proud of what we accomplished. From a creative idea, to constant encouragement and flexibility with schedule--- we built literally from the first step to the last. Her friendship was wonderful and her dancing ability is amazing too. Hire her for whatever you need on the dance floor!

This ballroom dance school has done a superb in job creating a community of not only dancers, but patrons of the arts. The instruction there is fabulous, and the personal attention to each student is so valuable. But to see students performing in showcases supported by their fellow International Ballroom students is amazing! It's something you don't often see in the performing arts. Also the social dance events are so much fun, and so are the holiday events. Then there are the trips! Wow! Not only are the instructors supportive and talented, but so is the staff! We just can't get enough! All Ed Cobb and I can say is, "Bravissimi!"
