Since 1963, the Improvisation Comedy Clubs have set the standard for live stand-up in the U.S., launching generations of comedy’s biggest stars. The original Improv opened in New York City in 1963, shaping modern stand-up and serving as a proving ground for legends like Robin Williams, Andy Kaufman, and George Carlin. Though the NYC location closed in 1992, the legacy never faded. Now, 34 years later, the Improv returns to New York with a new home in Brooklyn at 64 N 9th Street in Williamsburg, near the Bedford Ave subway and North Williamsburg ferry — bringing top comedians and rising stars back to NYC.

The show itself is great but the three staff that sit at the chair by the door (pretty sure they’re staff because everyone has a table due to the order two items minimum policy and one of them is standing even) talks very loudly during the show the WHOLE time. Obviously you can talk to people during the show but not at that volume. The craziest thing is when I asked them to lower the volume they shushed me in return????

Saw the legendary Joey Diaz on a Wednesday night, backed by a fantastic lineup of openers. The venue is top notch: tight, intimate, and extremely well-organized by a professional staff. The atmosphere is conducive for stand-up. My only complaint is the food and drink policy. The two item minimum feels excessive, especially since the food portions are tiny for the price. I understand this is typical/standard across comedy clubs in NYC. It just borders on price gouging. Every other aspect of the venue was completely on point and would highly recommend.
