Just needed guitar strings and came here instead of guitar center to support locally owned, but felt like I was bothering the employee by walking in the store. I will delete this once you read it because I don’t want to drag down your rating long term.

We have a rent to own contract with Meyer Music 2 years ago. It is time for upgrade to a larger size. We went to Meyer Music to a shocking discovery. The rental money we paid for 25 out of 36 payments for $35 per month so far is $875. In order for an upgrade in size, we have to pay $38 a month for another 48 months contract. We can see that we are keep making rental payment for a long time without owning one, so we decide to buy instead. They told us that only 50% of the rental would count toward the new instrument. Meyer Music never say that when we signed the contract. They misled us to believe that we are paying the rental for future ownership, never mention 50%. They said they will email the contract to me. I never see the contract, but believe in their promise and kept making the payments. I found out they have my email incorrectly when the new contract printed out. So here how they broke it down $35 per month only $29 count toward the rental, $6 for maintenance. So $29 times 25 is $725. Half of that is $362.50 would credit toward the new viola size 14. We asked for the difference with the new viola, they said $1003. So Meyer Music basically said their viola worth $1365.50. And technically in my opinion we would pay $1878. We canceled the contract and took the loss of the rental money we invested in 2 years. When we returned the viola, the Meyer Music rep lady with a stone cold face printed our receipt and put away the viola without saying a word. I have emailed the music orchestra director of the NKCSD and was told of other issues they have with Meyer Music and that he would bring the attention to his higher superior. We ended up buying a viola from Bill Violin Shop for $325! Mr. Bill Steel is a well known musical teacher at the Northland Cathedral. His shop offer high quality instruments at a reasonable price and he accepts trade in at FAIR value. Meyer Music rent to own program is very manipulative! They never mention anything about the 50% and the maintenance fee in your contract. They are successfully banking that busy parents like us don't read the contract and sent the contract to a ghost email address and never bother to check if we received it. I am put it out there for other parents to be aware, demand the contract, read it throughly and see how rip off the rent to own by Meyer Music. They mark up their price (Meyer call it inflation) when time to buy and you will never be able to own one. Buy an affordable from Bill Violin Shop if your kiddos commit to it or go with KC strings in Merriam, KS as recommended by the NKCSD music orchestra director.

The amount of money they charge for the instruments is ridiculous. Over $1200 for a bell and snare kit. They charge double for the instruments then a $6 service fee plus finance changes. This is a place for kids to get musical experience and you are outrageously over charging people
