  Amazing tour of a working, historic lighthouse. Great tour, museum, grounds and the actual lighthouse. Also good trails down to the shore to take pictures and get up close to Lake Superior. It can get busy, so plan accordingly.

  Visited on 10/10/26. Gorgeous place and so much history. I would recommend coming early right when they open to avoid the crowds. Was nice to check this off our bucket list.

  We visited on a Wednesday right at 9:45 AM, and the visitor's center wasn't open until 10 so we decided to walk around and try to see the lighthouse. The pathway just to the left of the visitor's center was closed, so we tried the path to the lake view along with some other visitor's who didn't know where to go either. Found out there is a long trail from the parking lot that goes down to the shore and then up 172 steps where you can see the lighthouse from a landing about halfway up. It goes along the ruins from the old supply lift, which was neat to see. Once we got back to the visitor's center, we realized you have to buy a wristband in order to tour the grounds and see the lighthouse up close. We were on a time crunch, so we didn't do so. Gift shop is small and cute, staff was friendly, and the bathrooms are clean. Just wish there were clearer signage for the pathways, lots of us were confused and two of them were blocked off.

  We watched the video first like one review recommended, which was helpful to know the history. We went inside the lighthouse and all the buildings before taking the trail down to the shore. All of it was awesome!

  This lighthouse is located in one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Superior that you will ever see. You can go through all of the buildings on the compound, or avail yourself of a guided tour. There is a 13 minute movie that is shown in the main building. Very informative and very good. Even kids will sit through it. There is a state park that is next to it, but you can get into the lighthouse area without paying the state park entrance fee. Definitely a worthwhile stop.
