We visited Cosm Detroit to watch Harry Potter, and unfortunately, the experience wasn't nearly as good as we had hoped. One of the biggest disappointments was the seating and viewing experience. Unless you're sitting fairly close to the front, you really don't get the full immersive experience that this place advertises. The movie plays on a smaller screen, while the surrounding visuals are supposed to create that immersive feeling. However, from farther back, the effect just isn't the same, and it honestly takes away from the whole experience. Between our tickets and everything we spent there, we ended up paying close to $500. For that kind of money, I expected something much more impressive. We were so underwhelmed that we actually ended up leaving before the movie was over. What makes it even more frustrating is that you would apparently need to pay even more for closer seats just to get the experience you're already paying a premium for. The concept is interesting, and I can see the potential, but for the price we paid, it simply wasn't worth it. I gave it three stars because the idea itself is unique, but the overall experience and value left a lot to be desired. I would have a hard time recommending it unless you're willing to spend extra for better seating.

So I went opening night for COSM detroit it was rams v 49ers in australia and I had a terrible time but I chalked it up to the fact that its opening night jitters and figured it'd probably get better. Thing is I also had GA tickets to last nights Lions game and I will tell you I still had a miserable time, so much so that I left at halftime. Listen if you're going to charge a premium you gotta deliver a premium experience and you really did not, at least not for me and my friend. Yeah its a GA ticket but you still charged me $20 a person for that and maybe people in the dome have a better experience but this is what we got. To start off, you said "Doors open at 7:30". Well we got there at 7:30 and the doors were NOT opening, in fact we had to stand in the street until about 8:10 when they finally let us in, 40 MINUTES. Are you kidding me? I had to stand by some guy smoking like a freaking choo choo was nasty. We finally get in and GA seating is filling up quick, we go up to the outdoor terrace cause you know, its nice enough. Problem #2: We like hearing the pre-game audio, not stupid music we've heard over and over again. Problem #3 (AND THIS IS THE BIG ONE THE ENTIRE NIGHT) The AUDIO IS OUT OF SYNC? Like WTF, you can't get the audio to sync this is very basic man, every other sports bar you go to can handle this and for $20 per person just to step foot in the building you can't sync the audio to the video feed? Problem #4: The video kept freezing. We missed 2-3 live plays because the video was frozen, we could hear them. But not see them. The COSM employee there told us it was a problem with the feed nothing at COSM but here's the problem I had with that, I have YoutubeTV on my phone, I pulled up my phone. Was very annoyed to see not only my phone works perfectly but my YoutubeTV feed of the exact same game was a full 30 seconds ahead of the feed in your establishment. Let me get this straight, VIDEO delayed by 30 seconds and AUDIO delayed by 32? YOU GOTTA GET THIS RIGHT FOR THESE PRIICES STG. Problem the Fifth: Service, sucked. We ordered 2 beers only. First of all that was because it was the middle of the 1st quarter already before anyone came out to get our drink order. Second of all after paying like $35 for two beers we didn't get them until the middle of the 2nd quarter. Like seriously? YOU'RE CHARGING A PREMIUM YOU NEED TO DELIVER PREMIUM SERVICE. Again: All of this was so terrible we actually left at halftime and walked home to finish the game from there. Will not be back any time soon. For all these reasons I would literally not go to COSM for FREE let alone pay a ticket for it. Until you fix these issues, its probably the worst place to me to take in a game if you actually like to see the game. Maybe the dome tickets are better? But you've priced them so silly high I'll have a better time watching the game on my nice TV at home that knows how to sync the audio to the game. Sheesh. I've attached a video demonstrating the video lag, listen for the "hut" of the snap and see when it actually happens. Laughable man, to charge so much money for this kind of experience.

My experience at Cosm Detroit was definitely something different, and the overall concept and immersive viewing experience are impressive. I think Cosm has the potential to become a great entertainment destination in Detroit. However, there are a few areas that I believe need improvement, particularly when it comes to the menu, food quality, drinks, pricing expectations, and consistency. First, the menu online does not fully reflect the menu available in person. When people look at a menu before visiting, especially those with dietary restrictions or specific food preferences, they are using that information to determine whether there will be something available for them. I was disappointed that there were no vegan options available on the menu during my visit. It was equally disappointing to see salmon and shrimp listed online but not find those options available when we arrived. Keeping the online and in-person menus consistent, or clearly identifying which items are only available at certain times or locations, would make a significant difference. The food quality could also use more consistency. Some of our food came out cold, including my fries. If fries are advertised as “spicy fries,” I expect some actual heat or spice. Otherwise, calling them seasoned fries would probably be more accurate. The presentation of some of the food also did not necessarily match what was pictured online. Guests naturally develop expectations based on the photos and descriptions being advertised. The drinks were another area where consistency was noticeable. One round came without a sugar rim, while the next round had one drink with a sugar rim and another without it. The strength of the drinks also varied from one to another. When guests order the same cocktail, there should be a standard recipe and presentation so the experience is consistent regardless of who prepares it. Ticket pricing is another important part of the Cosm experience. Pricing varies considerably depending on the event, game, date, and seating experience. Some events and games seem reasonably priced for what Cosm offers. Detroit Lions games, however, can be considerably more expensive and, depending on the game and ticket option, can approach what someone might spend to actually attend a Lions game in person. That doesn’t necessarily take away from the uniqueness of Cosm, but it does raise expectations for the overall experience when you’re paying premium pricing. I think the biggest opportunity for improvement is simply consistency. Keep the online menu aligned with what guests can actually order. Expand the menu to include meaningful vegan and plant-based options. If seafood such as salmon and shrimp is advertised online, make sure it is available or clearly indicate when it isn’t. Make sure hot food reaches the table hot. Ensure food matches the descriptions and presentation being advertised. Standardize cocktail recipes, garnishes, rims, and pours. The immersive viewing experience itself is what makes Cosm different, and that part is worth experiencing. The food and beverage experience should be just as intentional. Detroit has an incredible food and entertainment culture, so expectations are naturally going to be high. Cosm Detroit has something unique, but tightening up the menu and improving consistency in the kitchen and at the bar would make the overall experience much better. I want to see Cosm succeed in Detroit. This isn’t about tearing down a new venue. It’s about providing constructive feedback so that the hospitality experience can eventually match the technology and excitement that make Cosm unique.

The movie experience itself was, for the most part, a 10/10. Unfortunately, the wait staff and overall logistics made the experience much more frustrating than it needed to be. They don’t allow you to enter until 30 minutes before showtime. Once we got inside, made it through the line, and got to our seats, it took about 15 minutes for our waitress to come over. When she finally did, she told us she was only taking drink orders. She seemed irritated and confused. I was hoping to order our food before the movie started so I wouldn’t have to be distracted during the experience, but apparently that was too much to ask. The seating and makeshift tables also made everything feel cramped. Add in a waitress who seemed unsure of where to walk or how to navigate around everyone, and it made for a very awkward and distracting experience. The bartender constantly shaking a cocktail mixer directly behind me was a whole other issue. Considering COSM just opened and the price of admission, the staff should assume that it’s every customer’s first time and be more welcoming, helpful, and organized. People shouldn’t have to figure out how everything works while the movie is already starting. My suggestion would be to schedule one less showtime per day, open the doors an additional 30 minutes earlier, and allow customers to get seated and place their food orders before the movie begins. That alone would make the entire experience much smoother and allow people to actually enjoy what they paid for. When a sold-out screening can reportedly generate around $80,000–$100,000 in gross revenue, I don’t think giving customers an extra 30 minutes to get settled, order food, and receive better service is asking too much. The movie experience itself was 10/10. The logistics and service just need some work.

Went to the first showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and was so disappointed. First off, the staff was amazing and did what they could with what they had. The manager was...ok-ish. Dismissive. The venue was entirely unprepared to offer this experience. The website did not allow many of us to purchase the food package to go with the film. I contacted customer support and was told the menu was still unavailable because the venue hadn't officially opened yet, but that the option would be available for purchase the day of. Well it wasn't. The manager didn't wanna hear about how people who bought their tickets early on didn't have the option to get the add-on. The staff was interested but too busy. It actually worked out because even the people who DID buy the package, didn't get all the items offered. They didn't have all the themed food items. They had no popcorn, regular or themed. They didn't have the butter beers for the people who had managed to pre-buy the matching food experience. It was a mess and kind of a ripoff. The movie also glitches. When Harry and Hagrid are in the tavern getting ready to go to Diagon Alley for the first time, that entire scene shakes and twitches. Only after Hagrid opened the wall with his umbrella does it stop. This venue was clearly not ready to bring what it promised to the table. I get the Cosm brand itself is just a massive cash grab for hosting sports fans, and charging them to watch sporting events while purchasing overpriced food and drinks, but the movies seemed to really be something that were supposed to set it apart. Cosm failed spectacularly at proving it was something unique and upscale while simultaneously showing us it's just another subpar gimmick that's a one and done for the sake of saying you tried it. Will never be going back and will make it a point to tell anyone interested in the movie events about my experience and how ill equipped the venue truly is when it comes to their themed film events. You would think the investors and management would do a bit better job of making sure their opening week went smoothly. Nobody knew anything about the parking and some employees literally had to say things like "I'm so sorry, I don't know. They're just having me stand here and hold this sign." when asking for any kind of details. Even the training and information given to their new employees was lacking. Absolute shitshow all around and I feel sorry for all the people having to work there. Good luck with that kind of supply chain mismanagement and lack of care with training.
