  As someone who loves seasoned food, this place exceeded my expectations. I try to avoid raw foods so I ordered the small plates that were cooked — the meatballs, fish tacos (mahi for that night), and the short rib bao buns. Every meat was seasoned beautifully. Perfect late night snacks. No complaints. Just a note: if you don’t like any spice in your food, maybe avoid the meatballs. I love spice! Some people may not, though. Just letting you know that the meatballs are spicy. Also, the bao buns come in a quantity of one, I wish it was two per order lowkey.

  My wife and I went in to Maru Rooftop Nikkei on a whim. We ordered the Short Rib Bao and while we had high expectations for a $12 bao, it fell short. The best part of our dining experience was the ceviche, with the ponzu being one of only well balanced ponzus weve tried in Tampa. The bar service however completely redefined our experience. We went on a monday and the bartender Maryn was one of the most knowledgeable and professional bartenders we’ve ever experienced in a “rooftop” setting. We wanted something made to our palates and Maryn was able to perfectly understand what we were craving and deliver us something very impressive, using cognac of all spirits! If we didnt have dessert plans made already we would have seen if lightning could strike twice for another round! We hope to see Maryn again soon.

  My wedding ring accidentally dropped between the deck floorboards, and the staff jumped in to help retrieve it. I was incredibly nervous, but everyone was so reassuring, and determined to help. They worked together until they were able to get it back for me! Truly exceptional customer service and such a great team — I can’t thank them enough. A+ service all around!

  When we were seated, the table was dirty. As we tried to explain, our server cut us off mid-sentence and walked away. She came back with a towel and with an attitude and didn’t properly clean the area. I also pointed out that the bench had what looked like bird droppings on it and asked for it to be cleaned. Instead, she handed me the towel and suggested I clean it myself. I had to stand up just to get her to address it. She then asked for our drink order, I asked for themed menu and , she never came back. We waited a few minutes and ended up leaving due to the lack of service and cleanliness. The rooftop has potential, but this experience was unacceptable.

  If you haven’t been to Maru on Bayshore yet… you’re missing out. I’m genuinely obsessed. The vibe alone is worth it—walk in and it feels like you just got transported to Mexico with the most stunning, warm, elevated decor. It’s one of those places that *feels* like an experience, not just a night out. The drinks? So good. Their martinis and margaritas are easily my favorite—crafted, balanced, and actually worth the hype. You can tell they put real intention into the cocktail menu, not just throwing something cute in a glass Food-wise, I’ll be honest—it’s a little mid compared to how insane everything else is. It’s not bad at all, just not the star of the show. But honestly? I don’t even care because the energy, drinks, and atmosphere carry the whole experience. Every time I go, my friends love it too—it’s one of those spots that just hits for groups, date nights, or a fun dressed-up night out. If you want vibes, views, and a really good cocktail… this is your place.
