Shoutout to Cy S. Employee who runs the Terror Dactyl at Cave of the Winds!!! What a kind and caring soul!!! Y'all have hired the perfect person to operate a scary, thrill ride- let me tell you. My 12 year old son and niece got on this ride and were totally scared. He talked them through it, not a condescending bone in his body. Pure love and gentle kindness. He addressed my niece as "Miss" when she was panicking, promised he was going to take care of her, and then said he was proud of them for being brave when it was over. This was so refreshing to hear and see that someone would care for my own, like their own. So THANK YOU CY. I meant to thank you after the ride but you wasted no time in greeting the next rider and I didn't want to intrude into their ride time...so you are getting a shoutout here on Google! Thank you for making our experience here top tier.

We did have a great time but giving 3 stars because it was pretty frustrating getting there shortly after opening and not getting to do much until after 10AM. Lots of complaints from employees and people with assistant manager on their tags of being short staffed. It’s not professional to discuss employee things with customers near. It also made the ropes course area very slow. One guy was bouncing between the green step things, the ropes course and the rock wall so when you were done you had to stand around waiting to get unhooked. The scary tour (can’t remember) probably could have been done better. The guy that did ours (Ben I think) was meh… he tried but my three kids were unimpressed with the storyline. Cave was cool though but would do the education one next time, although we won’t likely be back. Food was not bad. It was also not very busy on a Sunday when we were there during the morning which was great, minus waiting around to get hooked up and unhooked. Also, when purchasing the scary tour… the front desk should mention the part about murder, suicide and alcoholism. It that it’s a big deal for most but having an 8 year old we wouldn’t have done that one had we known that upfront.

Very disappointing experience. We were looking forward to a fun, family-friendly cave tour, but our guide, Hunter, made it incredibly uncomfortable from start to finish. Throughout the tour, he repeatedly went on personal rants about wealthy people, mortgages, and minimum wage. None of it had anything to do with the cave, and it was completely inappropriate for a tour full of families with young children. Instead of learning about the cave, we found ourselves listening to someone air his personal opinions. The situation escalated when a guest accidentally turned on the flashlight’s strobe setting while trying to operate it. Rather than calmly correcting the mistake, Hunter screamed, “Damnit, Jesus Christ!” The atmosphere immediately became tense and incredibly awkward. Parents and children were visibly uncomfortable, and several adults on the tour actually spoke up and told him to stop because his behavior was inappropriate. Everyone can have a bad day, but this went far beyond that. Families come to Cave of the Winds expecting a fun, educational experience, not unrelated personal rants and to be yelled at by their tour guide. The cave itself was interesting, but our guide’s behavior completely overshadowed what should have been one of the highlights of our trip. I sincerely hope management addresses this so future families have the experience they came for.

Considering the great ratings of the cave, I’d love to go back sometime to see if my experience was a one-off, but my personal experience wasn’t great. To start, it felt rushed because we were a bit early for our 9:40 a.m. tour slot, so they just rushed us in to go early and fall between the 9:30 and 9:40 slots. We were in a group with about 10-15 people, most of which were young children (ours were ages 2, 4, and 6). The tour guide started talking about the haunted tour that’s offered - even though we specifically didn’t book a haunted tour. About half way through the tour, he started to tell more scary stories. Towards the end of the tour, they take you down a tunnel with no lights and have everyone turn off flashlights (after talking about hallucinations you may see in the dark and what happens to your body after being trapped in a cave for 30 days). Again, a portion that can be omitted if you realize the majority of your group is young kids under 10. Our guide also tried to make jokes (I think), but they ended up just making everyone feel awkward. For example, at one point he asked someone to hold a flashlight and followed it up with, “that’s a $70 flashlight, so please don’t break it. I don’t want to lose a third of my paycheck.” Again this experience may be chalked up to the tour guide and not the actual caves. To be fair, sometimes teens don’t quite have the awareness of knowing and adjusting based on your audience. We didn’t get lost, we didn’t lose any people, no one got hurt, the caves were awesome to look at, and the guide guided us through the caves.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park! From the moment we arrived, we were amazed by the breathtaking views. The outdoor seating area with tables and rocking chairs overlooking the mountains was the perfect place to relax and take it all in. We purchased the Pioneer Package, and it was worth every penny. Our kids loved being able to ride the Bat-A-Pult and do the ropes course as many times as they wanted. The staff truly made our visit exceptional. Everyone we encountered was kind, friendly, fun, and incredibly welcoming to both the kids and the adults. A special thank you to Hannah, who took the time to patiently explain the ropes course to my 6-year-old daughter. She made sure she felt safe, confident, and supported every step of the way. Her kindness and encouragement meant so much. We also met Dutch (or as he introduced himself to my daughter, “the banana guy”!), who immediately had her laughing. He was funny, friendly, and made the experience even more memorable. At the gift shop, Colton went above and beyond by helping us exchange a sweatshirt we had purchased before our Black Light Cave Tour. He took care of everything while we were on the tour so it would be ready when we came out. That level of customer service was greatly appreciated. Our Black Light Cave Tour with Drew was absolutely fantastic! He did an excellent job explaining cave formations like stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the science behind why different minerals glow under black light. Exploring the cave this way felt like stepping into another world. Even though we’ve visited several caves before, this was a completely unique and exciting experience. The kids were absolutely mesmerized, and so were we. Between the incredible staff, beautiful scenery, fun attractions, and fascinating cave tour, this was one of the highlights of our trip. We highly recommend Cave of the Winds Mountain Park to families visiting Colorado Springs!
