Sooooooo fun and James is amazing!!! We had a family group that gave us some awesome disconnect from devices time together. The puzzle was hard enough we didn’t blast right through it but hard enough that it was fun! Groups’ age range was 11-54 and we got a sneak peek at the Game Show Set- you have to check out the game show set- can’t wait for it to open!! Thank you for a great time!

It was a really fun experience, I went with a group of 5 people and we tried the "fair game." The props and the room were amazing; everything looked really cool and it was very interactive. The staff were really nice and helpfull with the hints, specially Daniel who was the one who gave instructions to my groups, and congratulate us after we "scape".

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! 🗝️🎉✨
My family and I have completed nearly every Red Door Escape Room location in the Bay Area, and we actually drove all the way to the San Mateo location specifically to check it out—and WOW, we are so glad we did! 🚗💨❤️
The room was incredibly fun, creative, challenging, and well-designed, but the real star of the experience was our Game Master! 🌟👏 From the moment we walked in, they were warm, welcoming, patient, and genuinely invested in making sure everyone had a fantastic time.
As a parent, one thing that meant the world to me was how thoughtful and accommodating they were with my little one. 💕 Without us even having to make a big deal about it, they offered sensory supports, including earbuds, to help make the experience more comfortable. That level of awareness, kindness, and inclusion is something you don't see everywhere, and it made such a positive difference. 🥹✨
And here's the best part—we didn't even win the room! 😂🔐 But when my little one immediately said, "Can we do another one?!" the staff surprised us with a gift card so we could come back and try again. 🎁🎉 The excitement on their face was priceless! What could have ended as disappointment instantly became motivation and excitement for our next adventure.
Every interaction felt genuine. Every staff member was friendly. The environment was positive, energetic, and welcoming from start to finish. 💫😊
In a world where great customer service can be hard to find, this team went ABOVE AND BEYOND. They didn't just host an escape room—they created a memorable family experience that we'll be talking about for a long time. ❤️
Thank you, Red Door San Mateo, for your kindness, professionalism, inclusivity, and incredible hospitality! We can't wait to come back for another adventure! 🔑🚪✨
Highly, highly recommend!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Lots of fun for groups, small groups, kids or adults! We did the once upon a time room and the gift room.
We slightly preferred the once upon a time room as it was really immersive!
In my opinion, the perfect escape room will use everything that looks like an obvious clue at some point in the game. There shouldn’t be anything that “distracts you.” But the gift room had a lot of red herrings - things that look like important clues, but arent actually used at any point in the escape. So by the time you finish, you’re kind of confused.
Ex: Why was there a date highlighted on the giant wall calendar, but it never comes up for solving a puzzle? Etc.
Our game masters James and Alexis were awesome and gave us the perfect hints when needed. Thank you!

I got there early with my daughter for a party she was invited. We had been there before, but I had to come in to sign a waiver again(unlike most activities where a blanket waiver is good for a certain time, and usually can be signed online 😒, but not here). There was mayhem, no one at the front for 10min while bunches of parents and kids crowded into the front room waiting(shoulder to shoulder at times), when someone showed, he could not organize everyone, so first come first serve was not happening, hence some angry folks with stepped on toes. I asked if they were shorthanded, cause I didnt want to scorch them on a review, he said they had some new thing going and he was not supposed to be checking people in, and likely not trained for that job. So it was chaotic likely due to managerial screw up. This place is all about parents, they are the real customers, so make it easy to sign waivers, and get checked in. No matter how fun, if parents have to deal with all this, its not up to par with just regular old decently run businesses. Looking forward to seeing some changes in the future. I'm sure my daughter will be coming back via more parties. But when her party comes up, we will look for another escape room company per my want to have my peer parents taken care of better. I'm sure the rooms rock, they get great reviews, but there was a real hole in their game yesterday on June 14, 2026 at 1:30.
