To summarize, poor film choices, disengaged employees (none have been bad, but none have acted like they wanted to be there to help others, either), and occasionally, even with low traffic, the counters are a sticky mess.
I absolutely love going to the movies! Except recently, it's such a lackluster environment and experience.
It saddens me to see theaters empty, but between the lack of decent films, and the sometimes out-of-touch programming by whomever selected what movies are showing locally, there's just not much that plays here that interests us...and as empty as the entire building has been the last several times we've gone to the movies, even rainy or cold weekends, it's obvious that we're not the only ones of this opinion.
There have been several movies that I would have seen here in Stephenville, but were only shown in Granbury, Weatherford, or the DFW area. After seeing a movie, the last thing I want to do is make a long drive home. So to whomever chooses the movies, you need to be better in tune with your target audience here in Stephenville, because I cannot imagine that the current movie attendance can support this theater. It would be sad to see the place close.
But a night at the movies is quite pricy, so it's got to be worth our $$.
What's also sad is that the pandemic really influenced enough of a generation, that they missed the camaraderie of being in a theater with others, sharing the highs and lows up there on the big screen. There's nothing like being in a theater full of people, with the immersive sound and images, and letting oneself let go of the real world for a couple hours, while silently sharing that moment with those around you. Movies like Top Gun or Lord of the Rings just aren't the same on your TV screen at home, no matter how sweet your set-up may be. I fear movie theaters will be something that will soon be but a memory. And now I sound old!
If you see a movie that interests you, do yourself and your community and this theater a favor, and go support a local business!
