I called ahead and was told the beacon for the lighthouse for Edmund Fitzgerald 50th anniversary would be on until 7. I was not told there was a “timer” on the light- i got an answer of a solid 7 o clock. We show up at 6:15 and mind you- we had tickets already purchased and we drove from the cities. As we get inside, we were immediately shunned. A man behind the counter raised his hand up to us and said “NO we are not taking anymore people” , terribly handled. Secondly, we were told that “well MAYBE the beacon can stay on until 7” so a lady directs us to the trail that leads to the shoreline, we walk ALL of the way down- not even 10 minutes after our conversation, and the beacon was off. This was not handled well at all. Many people come from far away because this was a big deal to a lot of people and they couldn’t even be considerate enough to keep the light on until 7. Absolutely heartbroken

We have been coming to the north shore for years. We like the wide paved and unsaved trails. We can use then with our doggie stroller as one of our dogs has bad arthritis. She love still being part of our walks.

Drove up here 2.3 hours knowing there is an admission fee and hours. got there and it’s under construction and couldn’t go in anything or walk down the docks, only could walk up the stars at the base of the lighthouse and in the side building where there is poster boards to read. After getting there and finding that out still way the full price even though you didn’t get to experience what they should have. Very disappointed in the workers response to our concerns with what we will get to see.

Pretty cool spot to check out. The lighthouse was cool to see! The desk people were nice. It was raining which gave it a nice spooky feel for Halloween time haha.
It was last minute so we didn't have much time to see around, but it was clean and nicely kept.

Fascinating to read about the history of this place, but more interesting to read about engineering of lighthouse technology and seeing the impressive lens that focuses the beam of light
You can visit the lighthouse or take a tour to actually go inside. You can also hike to the nearby state park which has some nice attractions in its own right
Lots of spots to view the lighthouse, and they are building some new platforms also so look for some new additions in the future
