It felt like the Ryanair of theatres. Cramped, knees bumping onto the seat in front for the average human and no aircon or fresh air on a hot day. Everyone were sweating like pigs.

Went to see "An Evening with Sir David Jason" and was blown away by his class, professionalism, humour and humility. An absolute master of his trade.
The theatre itself is presented in a traditional old style, the seats were reasonably comfortable, well tiered and personally, we had a great view.
It was however let down by 2 things…
1) The drinks were very overpriced (£12.50 for a medium glass of wine and £8.50 for a can of lager) and
2) We were in the Circle but to leave the theatre, we were guided down stairs, past a perfectly acceptable exit door, through the Stalls and back up some stairs. I did joke that we were having to leave through the gift shop… how close was I to the truth?? 😅 The only reason we could think of for this route was that we had to pass a strategically placed merchandise kiosk to get out.
The overall evening was most enjoyable though but only given 4 stars for the reasons given
It's a lovely theatre near lots of pubs and restaurants. I'm a wheelchair user so was in the accessible seating at the back. There was plenty of room and there were screens so you could see what's going on on the stage, although the picture quality wasn't great.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. I'd love to come back in the future.
Anna Lapwood was phenomenal. Unfortunately the theatre is showing its age. It was hot and stuffy with a constant audible whirr of fans or aircon? The seats are cramped with minimal legroom( circle D row). The view of the stage was good. The downstairs bar was packed with a long q at the bar and one staff member serving despite 3/4 tills.
On a positive note the programme was free- a QR code scan, and the ladies loo was a decent size so the interval Q moved quickly.
The Theatre itself is nice. It’s old and still holds the charm, however not having aircon or even a fan really ruined it for me with the heat, I could smell everything and everyone it was awful.
My reason for the low score review is actually from a security point of view, my ticket was not scanned once, my bag was not checked at all and honestly I could have been anyone walking into the theatre, I’m a avid theatre/concert goer so this was quite alarming to me, at the very least I would have thought my ticket would have been scanned, it’s also not very well managed, people were queuing in the street and infront of moving vehicles, everyone was pushing and shoving…
The Actual show was amazing though! I commend the actors/actresses for working in such hot temperatures 🤍
