  Incredible night out at the Phoenix Theatre watching Stranger Things: The First Shadow! ​The special effects and production quality were brilliant, and the entire cast and crew did an astounding job bringing it all to life. I’ve never seen the Netflix series before, but I was completely hooked from start to finish. My wife and 13-year-old son have seen all the seasons and loved every minute of it too, making it a hit for the whole family. A great venue and an absolute must-see show!

  Non c'è aria condizionata. Potrei terminare qui la recensione perché, ad agosto 2026, alla quinta ondata di caldo torrido in tutta Europa, non è nemmeno immaginabile l' idea di stipare 1000 persone in un teatro, senza nessun sistema di refrigerazione operativo. Stiamo tutti scoppiando di caldo, rischiando di sentirci male. Indecente. Non comprate i biglietti, non veniteci in estate. Pessima esperienza davvero. Biglietti costosi, più degli altri teatri. Caldo soffocante insopportabile. Tre ore di sofferenza assoluta. Non veniteci

  Very recently went to see Stranger Things: The First Shadow here for the first time (I assure you, it wasn't the last). I made the mistake of not triple checking the timing of the show (7pm as opposed to the more common 7.30pm) and walked through the door at 6.55pm, grabbed a programme and was shown to my seat. All staff were so lovely and friendly and I didn't feel rushed in anyway. Genuinely - to the point that I didn't know I was running late until the show started a couple of minutes after I sat down. I sat in the stalls (F27) and would say this was the tightest legroom for me of all my theatre going this week. I am a bigger than average person (both tall and overweight) and could sit comfortably throughout the show though. Even being off to the side I didn't feel that my view was in anyway restricted. It's well located for public transport too.

  Unfortunately, my experience with the majority of the security staff outside the venue was disappointing. I found several members of staff to be unnecessarily rude and abrupt, while the security checks themselves appeared inconsistent, as my bag was not searched particularly thoroughly. I was also told that a small food item needed to be confiscated, which I accepted, but I was not permitted to dispose of it myself in a bin located only a few steps inside the entrance. When I briefly stepped inside to use the bin rather than having to leave the area and search for another one, I was spoken to quite rudely. I fully appreciate the importance of security procedures and understand that staff have policies they are required to enforce. However, the manner in which these procedures are communicated and applied is equally important. It was particularly frustrating to see such emphasis placed on confiscating food items when the actual security search of my belongings did not feel especially thorough. Overall, the experience could have been handled far more professionally and courteously, while still maintaining the necessary security standards.

  In my opinion, quite a small theatre but thanks to that it's full of lovely designs and details. The stage itself is huge and the seats are all comfortable with okay legroom (okay = not a problem). There's merchandise shops and ice cream stands throughout the theatre too. Staff are very helpful, guiding everyone to their seats or closest doors. WITH NO SPOILERS, Stranger things: the first shadow also uses the whole stage to its advantage, with additional special effects and details throughout the audience room which gets used, so the experience really comes to life l, outside of the stage.
