I have lived locally for many years and have been coming to this cinema for around 15 years. It genuinely makes me sad to see how dramatically it has declined over the last three or four years. What used to be an enjoyable and relaxing local cinema experience has become increasingly stressful. You go to the cinema to watch a film, relax and enjoy yourself, but instead you are faced with long waiting times, often only one staff member behind the counter, constant understaffing, dirty and untidy counters, poor organisation and, a very disappointing level of customer service. On a few occasions, I have found staff at the counter rude, unprofessional and difficult to communicate with. There seems to be a real lack of training, supervision and general care. For somewhere calling itself “ODEON Luxe”, the whole experience is now anything but Luxe. Unfortunately, having reclining seats alone does not make a cinema “Luxe”. The overall experience, cleanliness, service and quality all matter, and at the moment they are simply not at the standard you would expect. My most recent visit was yesterday with my daughter, and this has finally pushed me to leave a review. We bought popcorn and Diet Coke. There was no ice available. The popcorn did not taste fresh and had a very strong, unpleasant oily smell. The warm Diet Coke tasted almost entirely like water, as though the syrup or flavouring in the dispenser had run out. Considering the prices being charged, even the most basic standards of food and drink quality are not being maintained. The cleanliness of the toilets was also extremely poor. At around 6pm, the ladies’ toilets were very dirty, and there was no hand soap available at any of the sinks. In a public venue serving food and drinks to large numbers of customers, I find this particularly concerning. Clean toilets and basic facilities such as hand soap should be a minimum hygiene requirement, not something customers have to hope will be available. Later that evening, both my daughter and I became very unwell with stomach pain and cramps and felt ill throughout the night. A friend of mine had visited the same cinema with her son the previous day and told me that they had experienced very similar stomach problems afterwards. Of course, I cannot say with certainty what caused our symptoms, but given that we had eaten at the cinema, the poor hygiene I observed during the same visit, and the fact that another family experienced similar symptoms, it has left me genuinely concerned about hygiene, food handling and general quality control at this venue. After supporting this cinema for so many years, I am extremely disappointed to be giving it one star. This venue desperately needs stronger management, better staffing levels, proper staff training, improved cleanliness and much better quality control of the food and drinks being served. It is genuinely sad to see how far this cinema has fallen.

Had a fantastic time at Screen 3! The seats were really comfortable, and the film started exactly at the advertised time, which was great. There was a good range of snacks and drinks available, and tickets can be easily booked online. The website also provides all the information you need, so everything was straightforward and well organised. The facilities were clean and well maintained too, including the toilets, which were lovely and clean. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience and everything was great from start to finish. Would definitely visit again!

Great venue, IMAX screen was brilliant. Saw The Odyssey and is definitely the beat film of the year. However, subtitles would be good for the dialogue & hard of hearing, the sound was wayyy too loud, they could hand out earplugs to prevent hearing damage and tinnitus. Entering from Chimes absolutelyno signage to cinema. Doesn’t say anywhere the directions to get to from outside/ inside chimes. Google and apple maps both saying you are at location. Needs improved signage and clear directions.

The best cinema in the region. People need to be reminded to be tidier, pick up their rubbish when leaving and to treat the seats etc with care. Ive seen some absolute animal behaviour and fear the renovations will deteriorate if not cared for.

I hadn’t been to the cinema in over five years, largely because there simply haven’t been enough films that have made me want to go. When The Odyssey came out, I was genuinely excited. I booked tickets for myself and my wife as a date night, and for the first time in years I was actually thinking that maybe I’d start going to the cinema more regularly again. Unfortunately, my experience at ODEON reminded me exactly why staying at home and waiting for films to come to streaming platforms is becoming the more appealing option. We arrived at the cinema excited for the film and queued to get our popcorn. I asked for mixed popcorn, only to be told they had completely run out of salted popcorn. I understand that products occasionally sell out, but what frustrated me was the complete lack of preparation and accountability. When I asked why they had run out, the member of staff looked at me as though I had asked something ridiculous. I then asked to speak to the manager, expecting some acknowledgement of the poor preparation, but I was met with much the same attitude. The manager explained that they had been extremely busy because of Spider-Man and The Odyssey. But surely that makes the situation worse, not better? These are two of the biggest film releases of the year. ODEON knew these films were coming. They knew the release dates. They knew ticket sales and bookings would indicate increased demand. They knew cinemas would be considerably busier than normal. So where was the preparation? If you know two huge films are going to bring significantly more customers through the doors, surely basic operational planning means increasing stock levels accordingly — especially for something as fundamental to the cinema experience as popcorn. Saying, essentially, “we’ve been busy because of the big films” isn’t really an explanation. The big films are precisely why the cinema should have been better prepared. What made matters worse was that the popcorn we did receive was stale and horrible. So not only could we not get what we actually wanted, but we also paid for a product that wasn’t enjoyable. What disappointed me most, however, was the lack of accountability. Nobody seemed particularly concerned that customers were being let down. Instead, I felt as though I was being unreasonable simply for questioning why a cinema hadn’t adequately stocked one of its most basic products during one of its busiest periods. Cinema attendance has been struggling for years. People now have huge televisions, surround sound and multiple streaming services at home. Going to the cinema therefore needs to feel like an experience worth leaving the house and paying a premium for. I paid £50 when I could have waited for it come out on the streaming platforms. I was exactly the type of customer cinemas should be trying to win back. I hadn’t visited in over five years. The Odyssey finally got me excited enough to return. I booked a date night with my wife, arrived excited, and genuinely thought I might start going to the cinema more often. Instead, I left thinking the complete opposite. Why should I pay for cinema tickets, travel to the cinema, queue for overpriced food and then receive stale popcorn and dismissive customer service when I can simply wait and watch the film comfortably at home? I appreciate that running out of popcorn might sound like a small issue in isolation. But this complaint isn’t simply about popcorn. It’s about preparation, customer service and accountability. When you know two of the year’s biggest films are being released and that customer numbers are going to increase significantly, you prepare for it. You increase stock. You make sure the food being sold is fresh. And if something does go wrong, you acknowledge the customer’s frustration rather than making them feel unreasonable for raising it. After more than five years away from the cinema, I came back genuinely excited. I left wondering why I bothered and definitely not returning to the cinema for a long time.
