The Caves themselves are fascinating, not the biggest I've been to, but cute. It's a shame their guide who a little rude. To one lady he said she'd have to go through another path because she was too big to fit through the path we was going to take. I think he was trying to be funny as she wasn't any bigger than most of the people there. I caught up with her at the shop at the end, she was modified he'd said that. She was with her sisters as a reunion. Plus, he referred to the cave as "my caves" multiple times!" I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong to him!

The caves are fine, but this private business allows people to have open-carry firearms. We had a person with a pistol on his hip in our group. I think everyone should boycott this place until they enact their right and in my mind duty, to prohibit open-carry firearms. I mean really; letting someone carry a firearm in tiny cave areas in large groups which often have several children creates unnecessary risk and fear among the attendees. Open carry is legal in Colorado, but most businesses (for instance Starbucks, and Chipotle) have appropriately forbid open-carry firearms. C’mon Cave of the Winds, walk-your-talk of being kid and family friendly!

We came out for the discovery cave tour in May/June 2025. Upon arrival around 10AM on a Friday morning, there was no wait to get into the park and parking was a breeze with two attendants directing traffic. Caution on the (short) curvy road, especially on your way back down.
The person working the front box office/ticket booth was super nice and got me quickly checked in with fool-proof instructions for exactly what to do and where to go next for our tour.
Our tour guide, Tracy, was wonderful! You can tell they've been doing this a long time with the information they shared, peppered in with lots of funny jokes. Our favorite was that you can't touch the stalactites or the stalagmites but make sure to touch every "stalag-PIPE" (the railings! 🤣) We enjoyed learning about the history and science of the caves. An unforgettable experience for all ages! There's a good amount of stairs throughout the tour and some spots where you need to duck and curve around, so keep that in mind if mobility is a concern.
They will also take your photo with your family in the cave and offer it to you for purchase at the end of the tour in a nice little commemorative envelope/frame thingy. Nice little souvenir that fits easily in carry on-bag.
They have an observation deck with a gorgeous view below and all around. Just inside from there is seating, and food&Drink available for purchase.
I recommending booking your cave tour in advance especially if going on a weekend or have more than 2-3 in your party, to ensure you get in the time you want!

The haunted lantern tour guided by Tracy was by far the most fun experience we’ve had with regards to caves and horror. Tracy is an excellent story teller, with a well versed knowledge in both the history of the people who used to run the cave and cave related knowledge. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. The experience itself was truly spooky! Especially the part where we had to burn out all of our candles and listen to a horror story in darkness. What an experience!! He was also awesome at altering his tone of voice in his story telling really emitting the emotion of the stories of the past. It was really cool seeing the cave dance floor that was once full of historic life as well as hearing about the weddings that were once conducted in this epitome of darkness. I’ll definitely be coming back again if my friends are ever in town and I’m not sure if we can request Tracy but he was outstanding.
This park is great to come to during the week. It wasn’t crowded at all on a Monday for a 12pm tour. In fact the emptiness made it feel even scarier since we were just with one other couple from the tour.
I would recommend wearing well gripped shoes because there are some slippery spots but only for a small portion (10 feet) of the journey. Speaking of which - Tracy really cares about his group - and gave us a full safety brief as well as specific areas to walk to avoid slipping hazards. He gave us peace of mind in terms of our overall safety itself but man were those stories scary. Especially knowing you’re just a small group underground in a dark cave with the light of only candles.
TRACY YOU ARE A LEGEND (and have the coolest LEGGO earrings).

We came as a family of 4 for the Haunted Lantern Tour. On our way up the winding roads to get to the parking lot, my 15 year old had a negative response to the altitude and got a MAJOR nosebleed. My husband went to go check in and let them know we we were here, just needing to make sure our daughter was taken care of and to see if she was good to continue with the tour. Our tour guide, Aaron, immediately jumped into action to make a plan for my daughter to ensure she could continue with the tour comfortably and at HER speed, if she chose to move forward. We got her nosebleed under control and she wanted to move forward with the tour, so we did. And we were all soooo glad that we did. Aaron turned what could have been my daughter's lowest point of our vacation, into her FAVORITE part of the vacation. After 5 days on Colorado, this tour was her favorite part. Because of Aaron! He was amazing, making sure she never felt singled out or like she was being babied. He let her walk at the front, making jokes about how she was his VIP so it made her feel special and cool rather than self conscious. He took frequent breaks for her benefit, without her needing to ask, making her feel more comfortable and again, less self conscious. He kept everyone entertained and fully engaged, from the oldest in the group all the way down to my youngest, who was my 11 year old daughter. He gave each individual person on the tour their own 1 on 1 interactive moment, bringing the experience to life even more for each of us in the group. He remembered our names or where we were from to help incorporate some of that into the tales along the tour. He was funny, caring, comforting, compassionate, and yet terrifying all in the exact right moments. Our tour was perfect for everyone, full of spooky moments and lots of laughs. But Aaron turned this experience into something else entirely, in all positive ways. Cave of the Winds was magnificent, but Aaron leaves an impression!
