Very courteous, knowledgeable, and considerate technician came to evaluate my situation and to give me information about a new door installation and whether the old glass bathroom door was reparable. He listened to my concerns and did not push me into buying a new glass shower door, although I did order one. The estimated cost that he quoted was right on the money. I totally recommend Cheshire Glass with five stars!

The folks at Cheshire Glass were highly recommended by another window company and they were great to deal with.
They were able to work my damaged window and repair it perfectly. I can recommend them with full confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cheshire Glass Company
Why don't you have prices on your website?
Setting standard pricing for our services is difficult because of the custom nature of each project. Your glass solution depends on multiple factors including style, size, type, thickness, and hardware selections. At Cheshire Glass, we work directly with you to recommend a personalized and functional solution that fits both your specific requirements and your budget.
How do I get started selecting a glass shower enclosure?
Choosing the right glass shower doors, multi-panel showers, or tub enclosures can seem daunting, but our shower selection page provides an excellent starting point to help narrow your options by style and hardware. We work with you to identify whether a full-frame, semi-frame, or frameless shower enclosure best suits your application and aesthetic preferences. After the preliminary planning, our estimator visits your home to take precise measurements and assess design factors such as wall and floor irregularities, slopes, knee walls, and optimal anchor points. We then provide you with pricing and available options. Upon your approval of the quote, we release the design specifications for production. From that stage, you can expect a four-to-six-week timeline before we return to install your beautiful new custom-designed shower enclosure. Following installation, we recommend regular cleaning to preserve your investment over the long term. According to Better Homes and Gardens, deep cleaning your shower glass once monthly is ideal.
Do you charge for consultations or estimates?
No. We do not charge for estimates or consultations, unlike some other custom glass shops. Our objective is to earn your business and count you among our wildly enthusiastic customers.
How can I clean a "milky fog" that has appeared between my window glass?
Unfortunately, this cannot be cleaned. This condition is known as a failed seal, referring to the black rubbery material along the outer edge. It occurs in improperly manufactured or aging insulated glass units (IGUs). What has happened is that moisture has entered through a delamination or breach in the previously sealed air space between the two panes of glass, causing condensation to form on one or both surfaces. Please contact us to schedule a measurement for a new custom glass replacement for your IGU.
What exactly is an insulated glass unit or IGU?
An IGU is a sealed unit composed of two or more panes of glass with an insulating spacer around the perimeter to establish an air barrier between them. In higher-quality units, the spacer often contains a desiccant that absorbs moisture within the air barrier. Some insulating spacers incorporate argon or krypton gas to provide additional insulation. The primary advantage of an IGU is its capacity to reduce the transfer of heat or cold through the window.
What is the difference between "R" and "U" values?
The R-value measures a material's insulating capabilities. It indicates the resistance a material provides against heat flow. The higher this value, the greater the resistance to heat transfer. The U-value is an insulation rating for transparent materials such as glass that indicates the amount of heat escaping through a surface. The lower the U-value, the more effective the insulation of your glass.
What do you mean by safety glass?
The market currently offers several types of safety glass, including wire mesh, riot, and ballistic glass, each providing different strength levels. In our professional practice, the two most frequently used safety glass types are tempered and laminated. Tempered glass is heat-treated and rapidly cooled to create strong and durable glass that shatters into relatively harmless granular pieces. Laminated glass consists of two panes bonded together with a vinyl interlayer, which prevents shattered fragments from dispersing when broken. Building codes generally require safety glazing in any door, any glass within 2 feet of a door, and any glass within 18 inches of the floor. When you work with us, we will gladly explain the safety requirements for glass shower doors in greater detail.
What type of glass do I need for a tabletop?
Tempered glass is generally required when the glass is supported only along the perimeter, with the center spanning an open or non-solid surface. If you can see through the tabletop to the legs below, tempered glass is necessary. When the glass top covers a solid surface, plate glass serves as a cost-effective option.
What types of mirrors do you sell?
We specialize in fabricating and installing a broad range of mirrors, from antique to traditional styles. Whether you require a large wall mirror for a gym or dance studio, a bathroom vanity mirror, or a framed mirror, we can customize the size and edge design to meet your specifications.
Do you make screens?
Yes. We can construct new screen frames or repair and rescreen your existing sash at our workshop. Our inventory includes various aluminum and fiberglass screening mesh options, such as ultra-fine no see ums, clear view, and heavy-duty pet screen varieties. In addition to custom glass services, Cheshire Glass provides comprehensive solutions for window or sliding door screens, as well as full screened-in porch enclosures.
Why don't you have prices listed on your website?
Prices vary based on custom glass solutions tailored to your style, size, type, thickness, and hardware needs. We work with you to recommend a custom solution fitting your needs and budget.
How do I start selecting a glass shower enclosure?
Begin by reviewing our shower selection page to choose a style and hardware. We assess whether full-frame, semi-frame, or frameless suits you, take home measurements, provide a quote, and after approval, install your custom enclosure in 4-6 weeks.
Do you charge for consultations or estimates?
No, we offer free estimates and consultations to earn your business and ensure customer satisfaction.
What is an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)?
An IGU consists of two or more glass pieces sealed with a spacer creating an air barrier that insulates. Some include gas fills like argon for enhanced insulation and help reduce heat transfer through windows.
What types of glass do you use for safety?
We use laminated and tempered safety glass. Tempered glass shatters into small harmless pieces when broken, while laminated glass holds fragments together for added safety, complying with building codes for certain door and window placements.
