We specialize in hatching purebred poultry. Our quality chickens are for eggs, showing, meat, or pets. We have been providing poultry since 1936 and ship throughout the USA. It's always Chick Season™ here! Got Chicks™? We do!
I ordered a 15 pack of a mixed breed of chicks. This is my first time ordering animals through the mail, and it was a wonderful experience. I got my order a day early and was blessed with 18 chicks in my order. All perfect and floofy. I did, however, have one loss of life due to a smaller, sicker chick- but 17 chicks are healthy and growing fast. I plan on ordering again from this hatchery- some turkeys n ducks, so I’m excited about my homesteads future.

We ordered 4 chicks from this hatchery for my sons 4H project. The USPS sent them to the wrong post office 1.5 hours away. While I fully understand this is not Cackle Hatchery's fault, its not ours either!! We decided to drive and get them and when we picked them up you could just tell they were a little weak. Within 3 days all were dead except 1. Contacted Cackle Hatchery and were just told its out of their control once they leave the hatchery and its not their fault. They even started blaming how we kept them. I have ordered 1000's of chicks over the last 30 years and never seen or had any issues like this. I know how to take care of baby chicks! There are plenty of of other reputable hatchery's out there (Murry McMurry and Welp just to name a couple that are close) I recommend using them and not Cackle Hatchery!

I ordered 15 Splash Cochin bantams And 15 splash cochin standard. I only received the bantams Which they mailed me 20 instead of 15 they stated that the standards weren’t available and refunded me my money for those however I have lost 12 of these bantams in Less than a week. Mind you I have raised over 100 babies since January and have not had an issue like this at all obviously losing one or two babies here and there is one thing but losing 12 in less than a week and this company refusing to work with me on refunding me money like I’ve done something wrong Is completely unprofessional when I know I haven’t had issues like this yet this year till now we will not be doing business with this place ever again because years ago we had an issue with this company and they refused to make it right as they are doing again now so be cautious and keep any of these birds separate from your healthy birds you already have just to be safe and not kill out your flock

Ordered 16 buckeye chicks, 33% of shipment died in less than 72 hours. Contacted support and they’re not supportive to say the least. Funny enough, I have 18 of my personal flock born on same day as the Cackle hatchery chicks, same brooder, everything identical and not a single death. I understand shipping can cause problems but I’ve not had problems like this from any of the other hatcheries in the big 3. It’s unfortunate as Cackle is the closest hatchery to me but I believe traveling through Memphis seems to be the crux my other shipments haven’t had to endure.
Edit: notice they won’t comment about my other hatchery orders that don’t have birds dropping left and right. I was never looking for a refund but a simple acknowledgment that this shouldn’t be normal…they’ve explicitly stated it’s normal for you to lose 33% of your shipment in 72hrs…buyer beware.

We ordered 30 bantams. They sent 4 extra. They got here within the expected time. When I picked them up at the post office there was only one dead but when I got home taking them out of the box I noticed almost all of them looked sick. Some had pasty butt. Some had their butt holes sticking out like they were sexed. One had some stuff hanging out the belly dried up. That one should have never made it in the box. Some of them already had wing feathers that looked like they were around 5 days old when they got here. The only ones that looked good was the Millie Fleur. They are still the only ones doing great. We lost 9 the first couple of days. We was feeding them by hand but it was just lingering their death. There has been one die here and there since. I don’t think that will be the end of it.
We hatch chicks all the time and know what to do. We had ordered from another hatchery a couple weeks before this and they were great. Lost one on the way and one other died for no reason we could see. They came from a distance a lot further.
We didn’t bother calling Cackle because we don’t want to order from them again and they would just give a credit for more sickly chicks.

Do the customers pay for shipping?
Yes, internet orders automatically figure your shipping for you with online orders. Mail-in orders or phone orders use our shipping chart. Shipping charges are not only the postage. The shipping charge covers postage to your Post Office, and box, padding, nesting, any heater, HydroAid, any special packaging because of weather and costs associated with the delivery of your order to our regional post office dispatch for truck or flight. Most of our supplies, books, incubators, brooders, and medications are FREE shipping. Supply orders for Hawaii, Alaska and US Possessions will require additional fees for shipping.
What is my estimated cost to ship baby chicks to me?
Here is a rough estimate of cost for shipping and handling: For 15-300 birds Step 1: $20.00 Step 2: 15-100 x $0.27 per bird charge. 101-150 x $0.25 per bird charge, 151-300 x $0.23 per bird charge. Step 3: $20.00 + per bird charge= shipping cost. Example 15 birds is $24.05, 25 is $26.75, 50 is $33.50, 100 is $47.00. Each additional 300 birds is an additional $20.00 flat rate. During hot weather, we may need to spread the birds into more bundles and an additional flat rate fee of $20.00 may be required even if under 300 birds.
How far in advance should I book my order of chicks?
As soon as you know when and how many you want to order you should go ahead and book your order. We start taking orders on January 2nd for that current year to be booked and shipped for any time between Feb.-Sept. See Calendar. You can pick the month you would like your poultry shipped to you or note ASAP. It is common practice to order 2-6 weeks before the date you want for delivery. For rush orders, we recommend noting as a comment that it is okay to substitute similar kinds in the event we are short on one or two of your requested breeds. When we receive your order, we look for the earliest possible date for ALL of your breeds requested and are available together. Some breeds (rare turkeys, guineas, ducks, geese, and game birds) are not available for later in the year. Customers can consider ordering the chicken orders on a separate order for a possible earlier delivery time. We then secure that date and take those birds off the market for sale and send you a confirmation of your hatch/ship date. Because live newly hatched chicks become perishable the day they hatch, it is necessary to have them all sold well before their hatch date. Newly hatched chicks have their three day supply of yolk still in their system to sustain them for their trip to your home. Cackle hatches 110,000 -140,000 poultry per week and we do a pretty good job of counting our chicks before they hatch when we secure your order.
Why is my ship date being moved?

We would notify you by phone as soon as any delay is encountered. We thank you for your business and hope we earn your business.
