I use the light sensor to close them, and the setting is perfect to make sure the chickens are in before the doors close, but it's still light enough to close before the predators are out. My one wish for Nopec to revise: add a contact for a simple doorbell switch, to allow one to activate open/close at other times. My doors are not easy to access for the magnet method, and a remote switch would be really useful. I did rig up an electromagnet to do the same job, but weatherproofing it was a chore and the electromagnet only lasted a few years in the rain and snow. Maybe I could splice something into the light sensor circuit, if I knew how it worked.

I did have a problem a couple of years ago with the wire harness (door opened, but not reliably, even though the battery was good, and the sensor and solar panel were clean). I was sent a new one immediately, and one of the techs talked me through the installation. Not a problem since! That automatic door was my one extravagance in building my coop, and it's been worth every penny. Great product, great company. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
