About

Metal Fabricator
Founded with the desire to preserve and pass on the knowledge, art, and skill of metal working, Iron Mountain is a metal workshop located in scenic Pigeon Forge. Operated by “Forged in Fire” fan favorite Robby Bowman, guests can try their hand at blacksmithing and iron forging. Different from nearby tourist attractions, Iron Mountain offers a family entertainment experience that leaves visitors with a custom knife crafted under the careful supervision of an experienced blacksmith. With lessons on knife manufacturing, visitors can learn the forging process to create knives from nails, horseshoes, pony shoes, or railroad spikes. Appointments for lessons are required, and some have age requirements, so be sure to call the showroom to schedule your experience in advance.

We just had our 7 and 5 year old do the nail knives today and they had a blast! The craftsmen were great teachers and were great with the kids. The boys want to come back again tomorrow!

We had our first trip here last week. The kids absolutely loved it. Mine are 8-13yo and they ended up all doing 2 sessions. The guys in the shop were amazing with the kids, informative, explained stuff well, and encouraged the whole time. Such a great "forged memory," as the company put it. Highly recommend it!!!

awesome experience, one of a kind thing to do. It wasn’t a tourist trap and you get great value out of your time spent there. 10 of 10 will do again.

We visited on Friday, January 16 around 1:00. We were excited to try making our own knife and we also saw some very nice Viking style axes we considered purchasing. However, we found the gentleman at the front to be so incredibly rude and uninviting, not even willing to offer information about forging our own knife without excessive prodding that we just moved on to look at the rest of the store. Service in the back room certainly wasn't any friendlier. They lost probably a couple hundred in business from us. Although we come here every year, we won't return to the metal craft store again.

Our family has visited Iron Mountain Metal Crafts quite a few times over the years. Adults and children in our family have made really awesome memories making knives together here. I have a 12 year old on the spectrum who decided she'd be brave enough today to finally try it. We paid and she was excited and nervous to make a knife. Asking multiple times if her dad could stand behind her because she has severe social anxiety. She has been working so hard to be able to have the courage to do things like this. However, after asking the staff if her dad could just STAND behind her, they absolutely refused. I told them that she had a handicap and explained her situation to them and they outright refused stating that parents going in could harm the children. (For context, the only thing they're doing is hitting it with a hammer and the blacksmith guy holds the hot metal the entire time. Minimal interaction with the actual process) Mind you, 4 of our other children (under 10) went in together, stood together and made their knives together. But they wouldn't let my husband accompany his daughter with ASD. They would not let him literally STAND behind her just so that she was comfortable knowing he was there.) It put us back strides mentally. She goes to therapy to be able to overcome her fear of this kind of interaction and when she FINALLY jumps a hurdle that took years to jump...she is shot down with no remorse. Just absolutely no. If my husband would have paid to make a $20 knife then he could have gone in with her. We have had father son knife making there before in our family. So suddenly it's not an issue of safety anymore...because they paid an extra 20 bucks? I am extremely disappointed. It was not handicap accommodation to say the least. The lady at the desk mentioned that they do very well with handicapped people, however it is clear that they only help people with SPECIFIC handicaps, that are more obvious. It's discrimination. They gave a refund, which they obviously did not want to give. So then I also had to feel terrible to get a refund. They wanted her to pick a random knife instead. Are you kidding me? It's very sad. It was my son's first time doing it and I could t even enjoy the experience because of how my daughter was treated. This is what moms of neurodivergent children are scared of most... That when their kids grow up and FINALLY start to try to have somewhat of a normal experience, people just shut them out...do not accommodate or offer any other options or help...causes a Mental disruption and then you're back at square one!! And this is a tourist attraction! After so MANY years of coming here on family vacations, we sadly will not be returning here. I'm more heartbroken than anything else. This was more than just a bad experience and they didn't even care! The woman at the front desk and the guy with the black hat literally just said "sorry, no he absolutely can not go in." How can people be so heartless. She's 12.
