International traveller here with experience of staying in all types of hotel properties. There are several nice hotels in the vicinity with better customer service and amenities, at a better price, I DO NOT recommend this hotel.
The Hilton Milwaukee is a historic hotel downtown Milwaukee and its well located. That's the only positive that can be shared. The hotel is old and clearly needs massive renovation efforts. We stayed here when participating in the Pokemon Regional Championship over Oct 11th weekend.
- When we arrived there was construction in the lobby, we were not made aware of that before. It was loud and confusing how to get to the reception as it's on the 1st floor. When I pointed this out I was offered a 100$ discount by the property manager.
- The elevators are so old and rickety, every time we rode in one, it caused us anxiety. These old elevators have a 6 person limit. Many times people would get in without respecting that and someone in the elevator would have to refuse them entry.
- We chose this hotel because it's linked through the skywalk to the community center that hosts the event. This was a very important feature to us as with young children the back n forth between the CC and the hotel isn't convenient on the roads and takes longer.
- we got house keeping the second day and several areas were left uncleaned, again the hotel tried to amend through free breakfast vouchers
- On the morning of the championship we followed directions to the Skywalk to find it closed. When I called the reception to share my frustration the property manager informed me while they had a contact with the Baird Center, they have no control over its operations.
The Behavior and response of the property manager demonstrated he had limited experience in hospitality or customer service. There was no offer of let me look into this for you or perhaps it will be open on Day 2. Instead of saying, here's how I think we can turn this experience around for you, he asked me so what can I do for you? I believe it's the property managers job to problem solve, not the guests.
- Rooms, are extremely small and the aircon is very loud. We got the 2 double bed room on Floor 19 and when I got off the bed on my side next to the wall and bumped into the very sharp corners of the picture frame on the wall.
Overall this is the last time we will stay at a Hilton Property. We have since then started booking and staying at Marriot hotels.

Overall, we were extremely unhappy with our recent stay at the Hilton Milwaukee. To start, our room felt very small, especially the bathroom, as compared to other hotel rooms we have stayed at in the past. Counter space in the bathroom, and cabinet space for clothing and personal items was extremely limited. Next, the room was dirty upon arrival. We found multiple pieces of trash in our room that had not been cleaned up prior to our arrival, including an entire plastic ring from a 6-pack of beer in the middle of the room. Worst of all, our toddler discovered an unidentified loose pill sitting on the floor. Thankfully, they showed it to us so we could dispose of it, but they could just as easily have swallowed it not realizing how dangerous that could have been. Next, the bathroom and closet doors in our room did not seem to fit well into their doorframes, and they required great effort to open and close and they loudly slammed when doing so. So, they became off-limits during the toddler's bed/naptime. The tv had a very limited list of available channels to chose from, and the channel guide in the room did not correspond to the channels on the tv. It was basically useless to us the entire trip. Also, we had rented an additional hotel room for a separate family member to stay with us during the trip. They provided similar reviews of their own room. So, we know it wasn't just our room that seemed to be so poor. Next, upon going to check out, the elevators were extremely slow and dissappinting. It literally took our group 20 minutes to get from our rooms to the lobby to check out simply because we were waiting on the elevators. Because of their slowness, every time one arrived on our floor, it would already be packed with other hotel guests trying to move throughout the hotel, and we would not be able to board. Our options were wait for an elevator to take us down, or take all of our luggage down 17 floors of stairs. This was not feasible as we had a toddler and a senior with us in our group. So, we had to wait for the slow and broken elevators. Other smaller matters were also still inconvenient. The room had a very small and not very cold fridge, and there was no microwave to heat up food. We had packed frozen meals for our toddler and these had to be thrown away as they thawed out in the fridge and were not able to be heated up in the room. These things would be considered basic ammenities at other hotels. The price we paid for our two room/two night stay was exorbitant, and not even close to fair when considering how poor of quality our rooms actually were. Everything seemed like an extra charge where we were getting nickeled and dimed. Wifi was free, but only if you wanted to do a quick google search. Anything more than that, to include online video streaming (something which seemed essential considering how useless the tv was), incurred additional wifi fees. Free breakfast was not included (another basic ammenity elsewhere), and parking was almost $40 per vehicle/per night. We had two vehicles with us. So, the almost $160 overall parking charge felt like a very large hidden fee that isn't really shown on the website when initially booking the room. Even worse, the price we paid for our room was at a special "discounted rate" as it was part of a wedding block which was the reason for our trip. To think our trip could have been even more expensive is mind-blowing. Had we paid the same "discounted" price at any other hotel, we likely would have had a much more enjoyable experience in a much higher quality room. Overall, the hotel aspect of our trip was extremely disappointing, and placed a great strain on an otherwise great weekend.
