Extremely Disappointing Stay – Worst Attitude We’ve Experienced We stayed at this hotel for a tournament and had a very disappointing experience. We drive and stay in different hotels every month, and this was by far the worst attitude and service we have ever encountered. When we arrived, I politely requested a quiet room, but was told there was no guarantee because the hotel was sold out, which I could understand. Later that night, the room was too cold to sleep, so I asked for an extra blanket and was told there were none available. Because the tournament’s final round didn’t start until 3 p.m. on Sunday, I asked for a late checkout—even offering to pay extra. The front desk lady told me it might be possible until 1 p.m., but asked me to come back the next morning to confirm. However, the next morning the man at the desk refused immediately, saying 18 people had already requested late checkout, and he didn’t consider my offer to pay by the hour. What made everything worse was the rude and dismissive attitude at every step. On a snow day, when we had a 3-hour drive home, I simply wanted enough time to prepare safely, yet the staff made the situation unnecessarily stressful. For the price we paid and the circumstances we faced, the lack of basic hospitality was unacceptable, not professional for such a big Hilton brand. We travel frequently and have stayed in many hotels, but this was truly the most disappointing experience. I will not be returning. Update: We were here for the tournament when my daughter suddenly experienced significant bleeding from a pyogenic granuloma on her face, requiring immediate emergency care (see photo even after being taking care of). I had already packed up and was preparing to leave the hotel, but when she came to me bleeding from the tournament floor, we returned to the room briefly to wash her face and apply a bandage. A cleaning staff member saw us and understood it was an emergency. However, the front desk, upon hearing that we had briefly re-entered the room, charged us a full additional night without notifying me. When I tried to explain that this was an emergency situation, the front desk staff refused to listen, acted extremely cold toward me, and simply told me to call the manager the next day. There was absolutely no compassion, no attempt to understand, and no flexibility—even though we stayed only a very short time due to a medical emergency. Charging a full extra night under these circumstances, combined with the dismissive attitude, shows a complete lack of professionalism or basic hospitality (see charged bill for the short returning to room for emergency without notification). This final incident confirmed how poorly this hotel treats its guests, even in urgent situations.

The last time I stayed at this hotel was before the remodel years ago, so when I found out that the rooms had been renovated, I was excited to stay here, or so I thought. Katherine was amazing at check-in. Friendly, a problem solver, and overall a great front desk attendant (she deserves 5/5 stars for service). The rooms. At first, I was checked into a connecting room (which I was unaware of), and Katherine was quick to change that and switch rooms with no issues. I love that the rooms were renovated; however, the cleanliness was disappointing in the bathroom. I was missing towels, the toilet seat was a bit loose, short black hair in the bathtub, and nose boogies all over the corner of one wall. I went down to the front desk to ask for something to clean with, and while I couldn’t get a spray, Katherine was quick to grab some Clorox wipes and towels so I could clean up. After cleaning up that nasty mess, I began to notice other things in the room as well. Other issues include one of the lights being out in the nightstand area, a sticky surface on the table next to the chair, and a big gap between the floor and the room where you could see so much light coming in (this issue was resolved by putting a towel on the floor next to the door). But then another issue occurred at 4:30 in the morning and lasted for half an hour: the fire alarm was malfunctioning. The main reason why I was staying at this hotel was its location was close to shopping and a relaxing night away. It was safe to say between the lack of cleanliness in the bathroom and being woken up at 4:30am by a fire alarm, this hotel was unfortunately anything but relaxing.

This place has had a nice face-lift in the lobby since I was last there 2 years ago, visiting a large family that rented 2 rooms. The staff was very nice to them during their extended stay more than once possibly while a rental was secured by my church. This family is thriving and 5 family members are working. The new lobby look is fresh, open and inviting. Thank you Hilton Garden Inn of Madison.
