We have stayed here several times a year, for the past 5 years. Today I checked in, assigned room 101. As soon as you open the door, the smell of mildew, musty, mold, hits you in the face.
Return to front desk, and am told hotel is sold out. There are only Queen bed rooms not yet assigned. We had a King reservation. She advised, she cannot downgrade the reservation to a Queen room. No manager on duty. All this with a smart-a-- smirk on her face.
Fortunately I was able to secure a room at the Holiday Inn Express next door.
Buyer beware, there was a water event on the first floor of Tru by Hilton-Webster last year, and evidently, the first floor room #101 is most definitely affected. It seems it would be remiss for the hotel to assign guests to a room that staff knowingly acknowledged had an issue. The staff person said she wouldn't assign any other guest to that room? I have previously given this hotel positive reviews. Never again. First for placing a guest in a room that is most likely a health hazard, and secondly for coming up with an excuse that you can't move from a King room to a Queen double, when the King room has an extreme odor issue.
I guess Holiday Inn Express next door has now earned our business. They gladly assigned us a room, which is sparkling clean, no odor, and was within $10 of the Tru by Hilton, this HI ressie on a last minute check in.
The staff and management at Tru By Hilton need some training in customer care.

Have stayed here a couple of times already just booked a room going back again in a few days. We’ve stayed in many true locations throughout the United States and really have never had a problem, but the Webster location is by far the best overall run of all of them that we’ve been to. Very good location between Houston and Galveston and the Clearlake area lots of shopping lots of food choices. As far as a hotel itself, always agreed by friendly staff facilities are always clean. We have had no problems any of the times that we’ve stayed there. I’ve seen a couple of people making complaints and leaving reviews about smaller rooms. They could’ve paid a little bit more money and got bigger rooms…. Understand this is more of a budget hotel compared to the top end Hilton hotels you get what you pay for. I think this is a great value. It is absolutely without a doubt the best value in this price range in the area. The beds are comfortable all towels and sheets were clean. The AC would absolutely freeze you out. The location is far off off of I 45 that you don’t hear a bunch of racket but close enough for access our facilities for a swimming pool and weight room great lounge area upfront with a wide variety of snacks probably better than most any place I’ve seen again have to mention all of the staff and management were always very nice and accommodating. There is lots of parking and easy handicap access

First of all, the breakfast was extremely disappointing – almost no variety at all. When we got to the room, it was noticeably small. The pillows were literally paper-flat, the mattress was too small for two adults, and the blankets didn’t even have proper covers, which felt very unhygienic.
There was no kettle or microwave in the room, which you would reasonably expect at this price point. The fridge was essentially useless – we stored some food in it and it went bad because it wasn’t working properly. There was also nowhere to properly store our clothes, so we ended up living out of our bags.
The AC was another major issue. It barely worked and the room was uncomfortable most of the time.
Considering how much I paid for this hotel, I feel completely cheated. For this amount of money, I could have easily stayed somewhere far better. This stay felt like a scam, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
