Stayed at the Tru by Hilton in Midland, TX from 11/16–11/18 for a business trip with a group of six, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. My room had a very strong perfume/chemical smell the moment I walked in, which triggered my allergies. The floor had dirt on it, and there were long strands of hair on the walls and towels. There was duct tape on the ceiling, which was concerning and made the room feel poorly maintained. The bathroom only had one working light, the exhaust fan didn’t work, there were visible stains in the shower, and in general the entire bathroom smelled like sewer whenever the sink or shower was used. The heater didn’t work at all (it only blew cold AC), and the bed and pillows were so firm and uncomfortable that it was hard to sleep. The TV had severe audio sync issues that made live TV impossible to watch. The room also lacked basic amenities — no microwave, no coffee maker, no water, and no ice. Even my door frame didn’t properly seal; there was a visible gap even when the door was closed and locked. Across our group of six, every room had significant problems: broken heaters, leaking ceilings, flooded bathrooms, broken TVs, and the same TV audio-sync issues. One person in our group was moved four different times due to multiple room failures. Breakfast also wasn’t handled well. Although breakfast starts at 6 AM, several items weren’t available until well after 7 AM, including the pancake machine and standard breakfast options that should have been ready from the start. Overall, the stay was far below Hilton’s usual standards in terms of cleanliness, maintenance, and basic hospitality. This location needs serious attention and improvements before it can meet the expectations of business travelers or anyone staying here.

I was extremely disappointed by my experience with this hotel’s management. I had to cancel my reservation due to testing positive for COVID-19 — something completely out of my control — and even provided a doctor’s note as proof. Despite this, the manager refused to waive the cancellation fee and was unhelpful and dismissive when I explained my situation. I understand that hotels have policies, but I would expect a bit more understanding and flexibility when it comes to a legitimate medical emergency. The lack of empathy and unwillingness to assist a guest dealing with illness was very disappointing. I won’t be booking here again and would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values good customer service and compassion.
