My husband and I booked an end-of-the-year staycation here through one of their promotional emails. We’ve been wanting to do a downtown staycation, and this seemed like a great opportunity. We were excited to stay at The Line, as we’ve both been wanting to check it out.
We arrived around 5 p.m. Christmas Day, and promptly checked in. Staff was friendly. We were given information about in-hotel dining, etc. We were offered assistance with our bags, but didn’t need it. We got up to our 11th floor room, and besides the amazing view of the lake/city, I was immediately underwhelmed. It was dark and hot. Carpets seemed dirty. Not much furniture for storage, and we don’t like to live out of suitcases. No dresser. Only 2 small drawers in the closet, which also had no floor space.
The bathroom was not impressive. The countertop was small-not enough space to store toiletry items neatly. There were no drawers, only a shelf on the very bottom that stored extra towels, the hotel hair dryer, etc. Only 2 hooks on the wall for towels, and no towel bar on the countertop. I will say, I loved the shower itself. The water pressure was perfect, with a rainfall feel. The physical design of said shower is awful. It’s a walk-in shower, but only half is enclosed with glass-the rest is wide open. It’s not big enough for this type of design. Water gets everywhere, and soaks the bathroom floors. The bath mat ends up drenched, with nowhere to hang it to dry, since you need the two towel hooks for your used bath towels. The lighting is dim (you can request a vanity mirror). It gets very humid since the shower is so open, leaving the countertop/fixtures damp/condensated. Our bottle of shower gel was 2 pumps away from empty when we got to the room-a missed detail. Staff was very responsive when I asked for a new one though.
The bed feels like a toddler bed, as it is so low to the ground. It’s also extremely hard/lumpy. Not everyone likes hard beds, or can be comfortable in them. Our room was hot, even though I had the air set to 60. My husband brings a fan with us when we travel, so that helped. Between the ac not cooling as it should, the down comforter trapping heat in, and the hard, lumpy bed, I didn’t get much quality sleep. The USB ports by the beds don’t seem to be working well enough to fully charge a phone. The couch in the front of the room isn’t comfortable for long-term sitting. There weren’t prices (that I could find), on the various snack and minibar items in the room. The light fixture over the small table by the window is oddly shaped and placed, and my 6’3 husband bumped into it multiple times.
I’d also like to mention a little about our experience at P6, which we went down to after we settled in.
We were just wanting a couple drinks and some
light food. The hostess asked if we had reservations before she even said hello. We didn’t, since we didn’t know we needed them. She seemed annoyed and responded with something like, “well, it’s Christmas and all these are taken because people reserved them.” She offered to let us sit inside, and said something like, “if you only want drinks, I can try to take care of you myself.” We never saw her after that. But, the staff inside the restaurant were MUCH friendlier. One of the servers (there were 2 males) asked if we’d thought about food yet, as he brought our second round, and my husband said we hadn’t, because we thought we were only able to get drinks. He very nicely told us we were welcome to order food, so we looked through the menu, and did. It was very good. I understand it’s Christmas, and working holidays can be tough. I also work them, as an ER nurse. But, I don’t take my frustrations out on my patients as it seemed the hostess did. Also, if we needed reservations to the restaurant, we should have been told that at check-in.
Overall, the location of the hotel is wonderful. Close to lots of downtown stuff. Easy access to Uber/Lyft. I don’t know if we would stay here again.
