About

HotelWedding Venue
At the crossroads where Town Lake meets downtown, the LINE Austin draws influence from both the surrounding natural beauty and the creative energy that fuels the city. Once home to a jazz club that broadcast live on local radio in the late 1960s, the hotel is part of downtown Austin history and holds a cultural legacy within its walls as unique as the city itself. The LINE is centrally located downtown among Austin’s most interesting cultural treasures. Every direction offers something to discover: walk north for a museum day at The Blanton and The Contemporary or ride a bike to the eastside for tacos and drinks on a patio. Stay downtown for a live show at the Paramount Theater, travel across the bridge to the South Congress district or rent a canoe and explore the lake – which also happens to be a river.

I’ve been staying here every time I come to Austin for the last 3 years. This place has definitely gone down hill in terms of customer service. Just checked in and the combination of how bad valet service was, and also the check in process were unacceptable. No other cars on the drive and valet just looked at me, then I go to check in… I booked through a 3rd party and there were apparently issues with the booking in terms of which room was booked and the person checking me in took it upon themselves to try and educate me how to properly book my stay as if those errors were my fault. My balance was fully paid so what’s the real issue? Just move on and get me checked in without trying to make my experience negative. For future stays, I will reconsider continuing to spend my money here.

It was very overpriced. The rooms were small for the price. They couldn’t guarantee the view that I wanted after telling me that they would over the phone when I was weighing my options to purchase to find out that I had to walk outside to see the fireworks. My entire purpose of choosing this hotel was so that I would have the ability from the room to see the fireworks being that it was supposed to be a cool night. I still end up having a wonderful night, but I could’ve definitely purchased a cheaper room and still enjoyed myself if I was going to have to walk outside.

We stayed here for New Year's Eve and couldn't have been happier with the location. The staff at the front desk was friendly and welcoming during check in and out, and the others we ran into during our stay were as well. Besides the warn carpet in the elevators, the hotel looks modern and was clean. The beds are low to the ground, which would only pose an issue for people with mobility issues, but they may have other accommodations better suited. The mini bar was well stocked with drinks and snacks, too. Overall a comfortable stay, and access to the lake trail is a definite plus.

Disappointing stay for NYE. Didn’t realize this was a dog friendly hotel. I love and have dogs, but there was non-stop barking and the sound carries in this older building. Not how you want to spend a getaway hotel stay. The bathroom was modernized but the room decor is plain and low quality, especially the pillows, and resembles an IKEA college dorm room. The front desk check in/out was fine but they’ll tell you a bottle of water is included but charge you for it afterwards. With valet and the mandatory amenity fee you’re looking at $90 charge on top of your hotel stay. The positives: the Arlington Grey restaurant is fantastic and the valet team was welcoming, helpful, and was even jogging to the parking structure to retrieve our car. The location is great to view the bridge but not all lake view rooms have good views of fireworks.

My husband and I booked an end-of-the-year staycation here through one of their promotional emails. We’ve been wanting to do a downtown staycation, and this seemed like a great opportunity. We were excited to stay at The Line, as we’ve both been wanting to check it out. We arrived around 5 p.m. Christmas Day, and promptly checked in. Staff was friendly. We were given information about in-hotel dining, etc. We were offered assistance with our bags, but didn’t need it. We got up to our 11th floor room, and besides the amazing view of the lake/city, I was immediately underwhelmed. It was dark and hot. Carpets seemed dirty. Not much furniture for storage, and we don’t like to live out of suitcases. No dresser. Only 2 small drawers in the closet, which also had no floor space. The bathroom was not impressive. The countertop was small-not enough space to store toiletry items neatly. There were no drawers, only a shelf on the very bottom that stored extra towels, the hotel hair dryer, etc. Only 2 hooks on the wall for towels, and no towel bar on the countertop. I will say, I loved the shower itself. The water pressure was perfect, with a rainfall feel. The physical design of said shower is awful. It’s a walk-in shower, but only half is enclosed with glass-the rest is wide open. It’s not big enough for this type of design. Water gets everywhere, and soaks the bathroom floors. The bath mat ends up drenched, with nowhere to hang it to dry, since you need the two towel hooks for your used bath towels. The lighting is dim (you can request a vanity mirror). It gets very humid since the shower is so open, leaving the countertop/fixtures damp/condensated. Our bottle of shower gel was 2 pumps away from empty when we got to the room-a missed detail. Staff was very responsive when I asked for a new one though. The bed feels like a toddler bed, as it is so low to the ground. It’s also extremely hard/lumpy. Not everyone likes hard beds, or can be comfortable in them. Our room was hot, even though I had the air set to 60. My husband brings a fan with us when we travel, so that helped. Between the ac not cooling as it should, the down comforter trapping heat in, and the hard, lumpy bed, I didn’t get much quality sleep. The USB ports by the beds don’t seem to be working well enough to fully charge a phone. The couch in the front of the room isn’t comfortable for long-term sitting. There weren’t prices (that I could find), on the various snack and minibar items in the room. The light fixture over the small table by the window is oddly shaped and placed, and my 6’3 husband bumped into it multiple times. I’d also like to mention a little about our experience at P6, which we went down to after we settled in. We were just wanting a couple drinks and some light food. The hostess asked if we had reservations before she even said hello. We didn’t, since we didn’t know we needed them. She seemed annoyed and responded with something like, “well, it’s Christmas and all these are taken because people reserved them.” She offered to let us sit inside, and said something like, “if you only want drinks, I can try to take care of you myself.” We never saw her after that. But, the staff inside the restaurant were MUCH friendlier. One of the servers (there were 2 males) asked if we’d thought about food yet, as he brought our second round, and my husband said we hadn’t, because we thought we were only able to get drinks. He very nicely told us we were welcome to order food, so we looked through the menu, and did. It was very good. I understand it’s Christmas, and working holidays can be tough. I also work them, as an ER nurse. But, I don’t take my frustrations out on my patients as it seemed the hostess did. Also, if we needed reservations to the restaurant, we should have been told that at check-in. Overall, the location of the hotel is wonderful. Close to lots of downtown stuff. Easy access to Uber/Lyft. I don’t know if we would stay here again.
