I’ve realized in my years of business that people make all the difference, and the Austin Proper is living proof of that. While the facility itself exceeds all expectations (A+ gym, incredible ambiance, and food service), it is the team that truly sets this place apart. I joined the hotel’s morning run program and was surprised to find out later that the humble leader of the pack was actually Anise, the Director of the property. He never mentioned his title, he just did the work. It reminded me that "it starts at the top" isn’t just a saying here; it’s the culture. That leadership reflects in everyone I encountered. Big thanks to Jonathan at the front desk for his clear directive and help, and to Eve at the morning coffee service. The in-house muffins she serves are simply delicious. (Pro tip: If you see Eve, ask her about her grandfather—she has a fascinating story, and don’t be alarmed by the torch!) If you want to see how a hotel should be run, stay here.

I was very impressed with this hotel. Beautiful room, excellent toiletries and everywhere was spotless. The little cocktail bar on the ground floor, and breakfast were also a highlight. On my last night, I came back to find a small gift from the concierge which was very thoughtful and generous too. I’d definitely return.

Perfectly nice hotel but not nearly as nice as four seasons and it costs more. AC doesn't work very well, no daily turn down service, impossible to get a person on the phone. It's a luxury hotel for people who have never stayed at an aman, rosewood, or the Austin four seasons.

If you are considering hosting your wedding event at the Austin Proper Hotel, we would strongly recommend not moving forward with this venue. We are deeply disappointment with the service provided for our wedding event hosted in September 2025. We had a horrendous experience working with our assigned event manager. We expected a seamless and memorable experience, but instead our experience with the event manager’s consistent lack of communication, lack of professionalism, and lack of punctuality is inexcusable for a hotel that prides itself on delivering luxury service. A significant issue was the lack of billing transparency. I was charged tens of thousands of dollars to my credit card without prior notice or an itemized statement. After I requested an itemized statement, multiple errors were found and a refund was not provided until after the wedding event. In addition to this, the event manager changed multiple line-item quantities and costs on the BEO without transparent communication and repeatedly pressured us to sign the BEO despite persistent errors across multiple drafts. The event manager’s disorganization was obvious throughout the entire planning process. When unable to answer our questions, he failed to admit gaps in his knowledge or provide timely follow-up. He would often provide us with false information. Rather than collaborating with us to reach solutions that made us feel understood and content, every obstacle we faced felt as though he was opposing our preferences and interests. Multiple issues arose on the day of our event that clearly demonstrated a lack of support and respect from the entire Austin Proper Hotel team. The staff berated our vendors during setup which is unprofessional, disrespectful, and created unnecessary tension. During buffet service, several items ran out and were not replenished promptly, negatively impacting the guest experience. In addition, two unauthorized individuals were permitted access to the event floor and crashed our event. We are deeply dissatisfied in the mismanagement of the event planning experience and substandard execution of several key aspects of our special day. We worked with 30 vendors across our multi-event wedding week, and the Austin Proper Hotel was the only vendor that added unnecessary anxiety, stress, and negativity to the process. We trusted the team to deliver exceptional service, and it was disheartening to encounter innumerable issues during an important occasion.

The Room rates do not tell the complete story. There are excessive charges for too many things. There are multiple tax fees (to be expected) but there is an Amenity Fee of $130. I was told it was for things like the spa, workout area, morning coffee area, etc. One would think that at ~$700.00/nt. Plus taxes and fees workout area might be included. Dinner was excellent and reasonable. Breakfast was poor and over the top expensive. A two egg omelette with a slice of toast and watered down coffee, with tip was $42.00 for one person
