Experience the Southern charm of Charleston at the DoubleTree Charleston Riverview, easily accessible and just minutes from Historic Charleston, where rich history, boutique shopping, and beloved Lowcountry restaurants await.
This was my first time staying at a DoubleTree hotel and I was not impressed. At over $700 for a 3 night stay, and with the DoubleTree reputation in mind, I was expecting a wonderful experience. However, what I experienced was far different - the hotel room had not been cleaned properly (there was thick dust in the bathroom, light switches had dirty fingerprints on them) and the ceiling of the shower had been sloppily patched and was peeling (pictured). It also took a very long time for the water to heat up in the sink and shower, and even then it would sometimes randomly go cold again. On top of that, there was NO soundproofing whatsoever between the rooms. I could clearly hear people in the hallway, and in the rooms above and beside me, not to mention the noise from the road.
I do want to mention that Sterling at the front desk was wonderful - he was very helpful and polite when I had to ask him a few questions.

If I can give them a ZERO star I would.
Let me start here ; I check in on 11/10 and it didn’t have no hot water in the room. So I was force to wash in the cold. Moved my room to a room that doesn’t have heat. I told the front desk; and he came and checked my thermostat and it was stuck at 45 degrees !
He brought me a space heater and the darn space heater didn’t work.
He didn’t tell the front desk agent when he switch shifts so nobody knows about the issue or check in or me.
When I got to the front desk, I was talk Down to and they acted like they didn’t believe me. And I had my husband with me a a witness .
Second they acted like the GM didn’t want to speak to me.. how can you deny a guest service or any accomidation to fix it?
I really hate this tear up hotel!

So they have a full bar and restaurant and it was a great bartender Nestor! And they recently turned over mgmt brands etc so give them a chance. Plus we received 2 bottles of water and cookies upon check in.

We came for a long weekend and were pleasantly surprised how lovely our 3 day stay was considering some of the previous reviews I read. The front office staff was professional, compassionate and very helpful, as well as having a sense of humor! The room was clean, lots of towels, hot water and clean shower, loved it! The bar staff at night were very busy with guests but service was impeccable with Mark and Renee. Surprisingly the food was delicious as well. Breakfast was lovely, Jennifer is the morning chef and her grits are superb, as well as all of her breakfast entrees.Jennifer is a great and smart chef. It's important to me and my husband who the staff is at the hotels we stay at because no matter how clean it is, if your staff isn't accommodating and pleasant, then I don't return or give out a recommendation. This DoubleTree will be recommended to our friends back in NJ.
