This hotel charged my credit card a $250 fee for allegedly breaking their "no smoking" policy. When I inquired about the fee, the manager told me that unnamed cleaning staff reported a "harsh smell" in the room after check out. That's all they went on and refused to provide more detailed information to substantiate their claim. Neither of us smoked in the room and no one mentioned anything to us during our 2 night stay; the fee was charged 3 days after we returned home 5 hours away. We left the room fairly clean, with any garbage neatly gathered in bags, and even left a generous tip for cleaning staff before check out. I regret being so generous. This is becoming a more common scam among franchised hotels, especially those independently owned like this one. (You can read horror stories online, or just talk to any consumer fraud attorney). However, there is very little recourse for a victim to take, especially if they live out-of-state; the fee is just small enough to make it inconvenient to take to small claims court. I'll likely end up having to eat the fee. But, don't let this happen to you! If you plan to visit a friend in Buck County for a beer and a cigar, make sure to change your clothes before coming back to your hotel room if you're staying here! Traveler, beware of predatory outfits like this one! RESPONSE TO OWNER'S COMMENTS: What evidence, exactly? All you told me was that cleaning staff reported a smell. If anyone smoked in that room during our 2 night stay, it wasn't us. Your website mentions dedicated smoking area are on premises. So, again I ask, If a guest has a smoke during their stay in such areas, is the guest expected to change their clothes before returning to their room? You may not realize how ridiculous and untrustworthy you sound, but others who see this will. You deserve prison time for fraud!
