I decided to stay at Tru by Hilton the morning I booked (a seamless experience), while driving out east. The price felt right for a quick overnight, and I chose it partly because of its location near a gym I like and that it's not much of a detour from the highway.
I was not entirely sure what to expect since there were not many reviews or photos online. When I arrived, I learned the hotel is still new and only opened last Nov. It definitely felt new too, with a clean, modern look and fresh decor and linens.
Amenities included a small gym with cardio machines and some open space for weights and stretching (for example), coffee, tea, and hot choc available 24/7, and breakfast in the morning. The breakfast went beyond a basic continental spread and included bacon, eggs, oatmeal, and more. There was also free parking, a common area with dining tables and foosball, and everything you may need in the room, such as toiletries, a small fridge, a desk, TV, and a bench.
The room itself was quite nice, and it had one feature that I find many hotels actually lack: sturdy wall hooks in both the bedroom and bathroom. Such a small thing, but super convenient.
If I "had to" complain about anything, the elevator was a bit slow and there was no safe in the room, though neither were dealbreakers for me. A couple of the front desk staff also seemed a little distracted when I checked out, but the other staff members I interacted with were very helpful.
I expect I'll find myself out this way again in the near future, and I would definitely consider staying at Tru again!
