Amenities – Customer is Responsible
A new property with amenable friendly staff, albeit with some head scratching deflating policies!
Upon check in the front desk person indicated they had noted the request for a non-allergenic feather free room. However it was up to me to check the bed and pillows for feather free.
Indeed, there was a feather pillow on the bed which had this not been noticed could have corresponded with a hospital visit!
The bigger question is why is it up to the guests, staying at this property to check what has always been the housekeeping managers role to verify the rooms prior to guest arrival?
Next, I jumped in the shower only to find the shampoo was empty – A phone call and the bottle was replaced!
Next morning I was quite annoyed to find that the conditioner was empty!
My count of at least three hotel workers that missed what should not be the guest responsibility to check when arriving in the room.
(1. House cleaning staffs,
2. The house cleaning manager who checks and releases the room and
3. The person who replaced the shampoo but was not empowered to verify the other amenities)
The suite itself is nice and roomy with a handy microwave & mini fridge.
However for a similar price one could stay at the Homewood suites with a full kitchen!
Unfortunately, the desk chair is extremely uncomfortable and severely lacking in support for working or sitting at for more than ten minutes.
The TV looks great over the desk – pull it out and swing it towards the bed or the couch and it flops on a severe angle making it difficult to watch TV for any length of time!
On the plus side there is a new nicely equipped gym with three treadmills and a step machine along with a nice range of dumbbells!
Breakfast is another plus offering up cheese omelettes, real pork mini sausages and home fries all promptly replenished by amenable friendly staffs!
Parking is free and the hotel is a short drive to shops and restaurants.
Conrad Hilton used to preach that hotel owners should actually stay and experience their product, noting that it would become an enlightening moment in understanding their guests comfort & needs!
That concept would most certainly apply here – fortunately there are other options about the city that offer better value and comfort without requiring the guests to do the job of hotel staffs!

We recently hosted my niece's Sweet 16 at the Hampton Ottawa West, and it turned out beautifully. Everyone was friendly and easy to work with, and they helped make the planning part a lot less stressful. From the initial contact with Meena, up to the staff working the day of the event, I can't say enough great things.
Our guestrooms were clean and comfortable and check-in was seamless. The breakfast was great, and the staff did an excellent job continuously cleaning and restocking food items on a very busy morning.
Overall, it was a great place to celebrate a special day. Thanks to everyone at the Hampton Ottawa West for helping make it a really fun and memorable night!

The room: We could hear everything our neighbors did including them using the toilet. There was no fan in the bathroom, no way to get air circulating apart from using the thermostat. Not eco friendly. But the shower had very low volume and no pressure, so I guess eco points for that? There was also no door to the bathroom, because a sliding barn door that doesn't do anything to block light, sound, or air movement doesn't count. The mini-fridge barely worked. It could keep beverages cool but I wouldn't trust it to keep food from spoiling. The mattresses were punishingly firm, but somehow also dangerously flimsy at the edges. I fell out of bed for the first time since I was five, and slept extra tensely after that so it wouldn't happen again. The beds are also placed strangely high, even for a tall person. There was nowhere to sit in the room apart from a wildly uncomfortable desk chair.
Also the TV was virtually useless. There was a QR code in the room advertising loads of channels and access to streaming services. But there were very few channels, no on-screen channel guide, and no streaming access. Why advertise it in the room if what is actually on-offer is such a joke? You're just drawing attention to your cost-cutting (value eliminating) measures. "Here, check out how little we care about your experience right here on this QR code! With a bonus reminder that Hampton Inn has been bought by Hilton, and Hilton doesn't care about the reputation of Hampton Inn as a brand so they're milking it for all its value before gutting it for parts."
The hotel: Seating in common areas of the hotel was just as uncomfortable as the one chair in our room. And though there are tables nearby they are barely above coffee-table height, and so virtually unusable. There was very little parking for a hotel of its size, even though there are no other buildings around. Despite the lack of parking, they held a wedding at the hotel. The wedding guests took up all the parking, leaving hotel guests to park much further away and walk. The breakfast offers every type of carbohydrate, but the only sources of protein or nutrition are their rubbery "egg" and "cheese" omelets, or cups of yogurt so sugary they're practically a dessert. Sausage has limited nutritional value, but there is also rubbery sausage. We paid to get breakfast elsewhere all but the first morning of our stay.
We didn't use housekeeping services during the whole of our stay (that's our mindful, eco conscious standard practice) so we saved the hotel a substantial portion of the cost of hosting us. Not eating the breakfast we paid for there also saved them $. This didn't stop the housekeeping staff from glowering (scowling angrily) at us whenever we passed them in the halls. We still have no idea what we ever did that so offended them.

Went down to the lobby after a long drive in to get some snacks at the sweet shop, asked to pay cash and the front desk agent refused to accept cash as her shift had just ended and her cash was “closed”. As someone who worked in hotels I know that her cash was not “closed” she just didn’t want to have to count it again. I didn’t have another payment method on me and I didn’t not want to charge it to the room. Not impressed at all with the lack of customer service especially from Hampton.
