Wow! A beautiful amazingly accessible hotel! I had an accessible room and it began at the door. A key scanner at wheelchair height that auto opened the door for you, alongside a visual doorbell! You enter a spacious room, plenty of room for accessibility devices, and see a completely accessible bathroom. A gorgeous roll in shower with a fold down seat and a handheld wand and controls at the right position for use in the seat! Only downfall was the tray for your own supplies from home was by the secondary controls and waterfall head used by non disabled people. The hotel supplied shampoo etc was directly available. Enough counter space in bathroom to door whatever maintenance was needed with supplies, disabled or not. Lots of accessible height hooks. Two things could be improved, the bathroom light is on a timer,, not necessarily enough time for a disabled person to shower, so finished in the dark, not safe. And the mattress was extremely soft, difficult for disabled people to turn in the night, and easy to get stuck in. The room di have a very comfortable adjustable desk chair, and an amazing firm handicap height chair by the bed. Everything in the hotel had space for ALL people, I used the amazing gym, and the pool that even had a lift chair in it! I think they forgot the accessible button for the pool door though.
The breakfast was amazing, real food, eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, on top of the usual waffles, cereals, and toast. They also had little brown bags made up for workers leaving without breakfast. My husband took them and appreciated them daily! An apple, water bottle, bagel, and spreads.
I informed the receptive staff of how amazingly they had done with the hotel, and what few things they need to improve, like that bathroom light timer. They actually took note!
The entire hotel was spotless! Sparkling clean.
I was going to a disability forum in Toronto, and told people about this hotel, the only problem is that it's in Cornwall, but I had people say they'll go, just to see how this place has done it right!
Kudos kudos kudos!
