I feel to warn others, as I encountered bedbugs in 123 if you have to stay in this hotel, there has been no sightings on floor 3, where I was moved. They have not been properly dealing with the infestation in this room, and I understand the general manager has had personal emergencies, but he never called as I requested so my attempts to explain what he has been doing wrong was not accomplished.
I checked in after my van that I live/travel in broke down on the highway. I was initially grateful to be in a safe space while we waited on repairs, was relaxing on the couch and then moved to the bed to start to go to sleep. I felt something crawling next to me. I then saw a bug next to my pillow, it looked like a bedbug I had encountered in the past while working as a nurse, I squished it and it exploded into blood, which is what bedbugs do when you squish them. I ran out of the room horrified, the person at the front desk had a ton of empathy, and did everything he could to help me, giving me garbage bags and allowing me to use the laundry room so I begin to clean and heat all of my things. I stayed up until 3 in the morning, putting everything in the washing machine, bathing my animals, and myself needless to say I did not get much rest.
Before I ran out of that room in horror, I noticed that the bed is not in an enclosed mattress cover, and that there were what appeared to be bloodstains on the couch, the mattress also had stains I did not notice any activity in the next room, however, that mattress also had stains on it, it also was not in an enclosed mattress cover, and there was also hair on the counter and a dirty washcloth in the new room. All the rooms have carpet, which is a major problem, also I do not believe that the furniture was ever thrown away the first time, despite having to fumigate that room several times as I learned the next day from the housekeeping supervisor. They did fumigate the next day, but I believe that is all they are doing. They are not making sure that the infestation is gone, they continue to rent that room out before ensuring the bugs are gone. The employee who placed me in that room was also a very kind human being who had no idea. That’s wrong and impeded his job, no fault of his own.
While my stay was comped, I don’t think that there was much empathy or understanding from the GM, judging from how the general manager spoke to me, not knowing that he was on speakerphone, about the issue. It was questioned as to whether or not I really saw one, despite the fact that it was a known problem in that room. Also, no amount of free hotel stays would help me if I brought this infestation into my van home with me. Also, it appears that he does not understand how easily this problem could spread to the rest of the hotel, or the fact that the furniture was not thrown away the first time this happened in that room, and all the carpet in this hotel. I wanted to explain this to GM, who said on speakerphone, again, not knowing that I was listening “why is she so upset? We comped her room?” so there is either a lack of empathy or education to the fact that these bugs are incredibly difficult to eradicate and that people can bring them home from hotels and go through huge financial detriments and loose many of their belongings fighting them.
It’s criminal that this is a known problem , and the furniture has not been replaced, not even a mattress cover on the bed. I was incredibly careful to not bring anything back with me or into the next room, but other people would not be as careful, they would not stay up until 3am doing laundry. I keep praying that being careful will pay off, having something like this happen in a camper van would be more detrimental than words can explain.
Employees were incredibly kind and empathetic and felt terrible that this was happening.
Edit: fumigating only kills bugs it touches, at this point you should be doing way more (heat, throwing away furniture, treating nearby rooms, encasing mattresses but you need to throw the 2 I saw away they are disgusting.)
