Our stay was ALMOST perfect…
Let’s start with the great:
We showed up really early. My plan was to valet our car and go about our day/check in whenever the time came. The gentleman at valet was extremely friendly, as were the front desk folks. They checked us in very early which made our day so much simpler. Even accommodated a late checkout given our Diamond Status.
Throughout the day, we loved every interaction with Clifford at the front desk. The hotel industry needs more passionate people like him that go out of their way to lift your spirits.
Up bright and early for the Columbus Marathon, the breakfast folks had everything ready for a long line of hungry runners. Post-race, as expected, I walked into the lobby to Clifford ringing a congratulatory bell and exclaiming “congratulations! God love you!”
For being a Hampton Inn, we were thoroughly impressed. It had an upscale feeling to it, and everything was clean to our liking.
Now for the ugly part that made this stay imperfect… the lobby elevators give you access to the valet garage. I went down, saw a gentleman and asked if I could load our car (out of the pouring rain that I already endured for the race). He quickly grabbed my keys. The gentleman from yesterday was also walking through. I asked if I was allowed to drive my own vehicle out. He said that wasn’t a problem since I already checked out/had my keys. A few minutes later as we were driving up and out, another man threw his hands in the air yelling at us. I backed up, rolled down the passenger window and said “your colleague said that we could drive out.” He proceeded to aggressively inform me that he was a supervisor and that the conversation “DEFINITELY didn’t happen” and that we were being a liability. I calmly and respectfully said I was happy to get the gentleman (after it was inferred that I was a liar) to which he became more aggressive and said “let’s go.” At the top of the garage I pulled over and the gentleman from yesterday came around the corner as the other was running up the ramp. I said “can you please tell him that you told me I could drive my own vehicle out?” He immediately recapped our conversation. No apology from the aggressive supervisor. Just looked and told the other gentleman “don’t do that” and walked away. I told the gentleman again thanks for his service, and that we didn’t need treated that way for not doing anything that we knew was wrong. Again, aggressive supervisor peeks around the corner to intrude in our conversation, but no apology. Simply got in my vehicle and left at this point. I want to reinforce the friendly attendant truly made us feel valued when we arrived and when we interacted with him. The aggressive supervisor on the other hand, reinforced my frustration with blowing over $40 per night on parking. Also, I’ll add that the attendant that grabbed our keys handed them to me also didn’t say anything about them vs me pulling out of the garage. So until our interaction with the “supervisor” - we were under the full impression that we were good to go based on these other two interactions.
Every single interaction with staff at this hotel was incredible. But this parking supervisor was simply hostile and made for a real treat in front of our six and three year olds.

TVs don't have a guide (that works) and the remote is not user friendly. Why can't the simple things be done well? Bad meal experience (elsewhere) made this visit to downtown Columbus very disappointing.
