I like going to Lake Placid every year for my birthday. I had reservations for a really nice room, which I had to change to the following weekend due to unforeseen circumstances. I called and spoke to Laura (or Lorrie, I can't recall) in the "reservation dept". I explained that I had called the day earlier but the reservation staff only works until 3. I greeted her and asked her how her day was going before requesting to move my 2 night reservation to the following weekend. I could tell she was having a rough day... We're human, I get it. She told me that the reservation would be about $140/night just to switch weekends! Already spending a good chunk of change for a premium room, I couldn't justify the additional cost for the same room 7 days later. I asked if she could accommodate me for the same price (it maybe a little less than $140. She was unwilling to even talk about it. She rushed me into cancelling my current reservation saying "she didn't want me to take up a room on a busy weekend". She was rude, cranky, and not who I would want speaking with customers if I ran a business. I hope Laura (or Lorrie) sees this and I hope her days gets better. Kindness is contagious! I love the rooms at the Crowne, but a premium experience doesn't stop at an expensive room. I expect better.

Excellent location and customer service. I even got a room upgrade and discount because it was a special occasion. In the winter months, when I stayed, you will definitely need an AWD/4WD or a FWD with snow tires to easily get to and from the hotel safely. My only gripe was the occasional weird odor, but I think that's because some people were bringing in more moisture than they should be (hard not to). The hotel should start using safe odor eliminators in the hallways and rooms after cleaning.

We stayed here for a mini getaway with my husband, our two young children, my sister-in-law, and her family. The great room, dining areas, pool, and food were all wonderful, and the staff were consistently kind, welcoming, and attentive. The hotel is also in an excellent Lake Placid location, close to restaurants and activities year-round.
Unfortunately, the guest rooms were disappointing. Our bathroom had significant black mold, and while the staff were very understanding and offered complimentary breakfast as a courtesy, the underlying ventilation and mold issues remained unresolved. We viewed three different rooms, and each had visible mold in the bathroom. The final room had less than the others, but the issue was still present.
Had we not been traveling with family, we would have chosen to stay elsewhere. Until the bathroom ventilation and mold issues are properly addressed, I would not return.

We had the most phenomenal Christmas 2025 at the Crowne Plaza Lake Placid. It is such a beautiful hotel, the staff are wonderful and it was decorated beautifully for the holidays with many trees and decorations, and lovely open fires. We ate at the restaurant for their Christmas eve and Christmas day menus and both were delicious - with tasty vegetarian options too! Tim was our server on both nights and he was so friendly and helpful. The pool and spa are well kept, breakfast was really tasty and the all-day take away coffee was a nice touch. Highly recommend this hotel for a Christmas/winter break!

STAY AWAY!!! Very bad experience in Crown Plaza Lake Placid NY for my stay in December, 2025. As platinum elite member for many years i travel around the world and stay in different IHG properties. This one was one of the worst and it is extremely overrated. When checking in I was told that i was given the upgrade getting lake view room when in fact i have paid for it when booked the room. Room was not clean and i found garbage food leftovers in room and bed sheets with multiple pieces of hair and stains. Similar in bathroom i had a sense it was not cleaned. Heating was barely working and could not get room temperature over 63F. This old hotel needs significant upgrades and renovations of hallways, facilities and rooms as showing signs of being worn out. Please do yourself a favor and find a better hotel in the area for money you will pay. General Manager is very rude and needs to learn how to appreciate and talk to loyal customers. Could not give less than one star here.
