I had a very abysmal check-in experience. I had traveled for eight hours from the west coast and was really looking forward to enjoying Christmas with my family. They gave me a room and refused to change the room or take ownership of the issues with it. The HVAC system was loud and the door latch was broken and wouldn’t lock properly. The thermostat was missing batteries. They were completely unsympathetic to the fact that I was insomniac and had a room facing the interstate. The hotel advertises “room highlights” on false pretense. There is no microwave or Kitchenette in any of the rooms but they advertise it under room highlight instead of hotel amenity. This is one of the worst hotel experiences and I do not recommend.

We came for Christmas in NY city. We planned and planned more to get into the city by watching YouTube traveling from Lagurdia airport to Manhattan. But having the hotel shuttle drop us off at the airport and catching the free Q70 near the drop to the Roosevelt Avenue Subway paying the subway with or card through or phone wallet was simple with OMNY (the card reader at subway entrance). You can use the MTA, Google or Citymapper app that helps you step by step on getting to your destination. I think I liked the MTA app best. The gps will show your location tell you were to walk, which subway train to get on and the times it will arrive to you. It will tell you what stop to get off and follow you with directions on walking. If you’re there for a day be sure to bring a battery backup or charger to plug in at a bodega or take a rest somewhere to charge your phone. The maps apps will drain your battery.
We arrived the hotel from the airport terminal B. If you call the hotel they tell you lowest level, signs say ground transportation exit, and wait at columns between 5-6. The shuttle alway came within minutes of calling but the travel the route around every 15 minutes.
We arrived early and we were found a sales manager decorating the lobby Christmas tree and ask if she felt in the Christmas spirit and help us get into our room as we needed to leave soon to go see the Rocketts Christmas show. She was nice to waive the fee so we could get in with our luggage and freshen up. We caught the shuttle to the airport terminal A or B best A because the free Q70 ( to subway Roosevelt) is mostly empty getting a seat is best here instead of terminal B.
We were pleasantly surprised at the large room size and seemed recently renovated. Everything was neat and clean. We stayed in room 343.
Only issue was the night before leaving local tv stations would not work. The maintenance guy looked at it several times and could not resolve and said we could move rooms or comp use with breakfast. We did the breakfast on leaving. It was nice buffet style meal. We would have hatted to pay the 50 dollars cost but appreciate their hospitality.
I definitely would recommend this staying here and traveling into Manhattan. Sure it’s a little more time (1 hr both ways from hotel to anywhere in Manhattan) in travel than staying in Manhattan. But once you start pricing hotel in downtown Manhattan you will agree on this is a value.
If we were not sure of destination or subway I found people very friendly and generous with advice on what to do. Don’t be afraid to ask, we found most people sympathetic to those unfamiliar. We figured being from Kentucky that most people would rudely ignore us. But found everyone warm and helpful. The shuttle drivers are very helpful if you have questions. A couple times a day I understand the hotel shuttle can take you to the Roosevelt station about a 10-15 min drive. Remember you can always get to the airport and a few steps away catch the free Q70 to the subway which is the cheapest and fastest way to and from Manhattan. Exiting the Roosevelt station we found two Q70 buses and got on the one into queens but a nice lady getting off got us on a bus going to Roosevelt and on to Laguarda. Alway use Q70 at the doors in the middle of the subway across to the third bus lane to catch the W70 Lagurdia link and from the airport the hotel shuttle.

Our flight was cancelled, and we were rebooked on a morning flight. As part of the airline's complimentary services, we were asked to choose a hotel. Based on the DoubleTree by Hilton brand and its proximity to the airport—especially since I was traveling with kids—we selected this property.
However, our experience was extremely disappointing.
When we checked in and walked to our room, the entire hallway had a very strong smell of marijuana. It was difficult to breathe, and I was especially worried for my kids. We overlooked this and proceeded to the room, but as soon as my child went to use the restroom, we found a large cockroach sitting in the sink.
I immediately contacted the front desk to report both issues, and we were moved to another room.
Although the second room did not have the smell, it was still unacceptable. The walls seemed to be shared in a way that allowed us to hear everything from the adjoining room. The level of noise that too very inappropriate. Along with kids it was so difficult to spend night and we had to switch on the TV at 1:30 AM in night with which kids got so disturbed and whole night was so disturbing.
The lack of privacy was extremely uncomfortable and concerning for both parties.
Given the reputation of DoubleTree by Hilton, this experience was far below expectations. I hope these issues can be addressed promptly, as they raise serious concerns about cleanliness, safety, and guest privacy.
