    As a frequent Hilton traveler, this Hampton by Hilton location was disappointing. I had booked a king suite, and when I got into bed around 11:30 p.m., I discovered the bed was broken. I ended up sleeping—or trying to sleep—in a “V” shape for the night. The front desk did move me to another room the following morning, which I appreciated, but they were unable to keep me in the same room category. I was traveling with a colleague who is a Silver member (I am Gold). At check-in, the front desk attendant stated that complimentary waters were only available for Gold and higher members. This was awkward and inconsistent with my experience at virtually every other Hilton property, where Silver members are also offered water. Overall, this property has some opportunities for improvement, particularly in room maintenance and consistency with Hilton Honors benefits.

    2 retirees at end of long travel day were checked in by very personable young woman who easily engaged in needed details, even good eateries close by. Facilities, breakfast were up to Hampton standards. One negative was later when an obviously longer-tenured lady, well-versed in the HiltonHonors water bottle policy, quickly let us know “Only members above Silver” qualified for complimentary water. Our thanks go to that younger lady on duty who kindly mentioned an ice machine in the exercise room, accessible w/our key cards. Her gentle assistance made for a good memory, without endangering Hampton’s water bottle inventory. 2 bottles of water would have been a gentle welcome, even if we were ‘Just Silver’ members. Other Hamptons on the West Virginia & Virginia leg of this road trip seemed to understand that the smallest acts of hospitality often make a lasting & positive impression & encourage repeat customers. Bottom line: Know your place in the pecking order & bring your own canteen in Wilkesboro.
