Extremely poor customer service and disastrous parking experience
Our stay at the Charlotte Uptown Hampton Inn turned into a costly and frustrating ordeal due entirely to staff miscommunication and lack of accountability.
Before even checking in, we came inside specifically to ask about parking, as it was unclear how payment and access worked. We were told—very cut and dry—that the card on file would be charged and the conversation was abruptly ended. No additional instructions, no warnings, and no request for our license plate information, which is standard practice at many hotels.
Later that night, we arrived very late on a holiday to find the parking deck completely full—not a single available space. We were in an oversized vehicle, and once we reached the top of the deck, there was physically no way to turn around. The deck design makes it impossible for oversized vehicles to exit once you reach the top if the deck is at capacity. A gate was closed, there was no turnaround space, and exiting was impossible. With no other option, we parked in front of a gate.
This is especially frustrating because we had already inquired earlier and were told we had effectively “paid for parking.” The hotel clearly has no system in place to prevent overbooking their parking deck and no way to account for guests who have already paid when the deck is full.
The result? A $350 booting bill for a parking space we paid for but never actually had.
When we spoke to the front desk the next morning, we were told they had “no way to contact us” because our license plate wasn’t on file—which is unbelievable considering we had proactively come inside the day before to ask what to do. At no point were we told that our license plate needed to be registered, and no staff member bothered to ask for it. We did our due diligence as guests; the hotel did not do theirs.
Management showed zero accountability, dismissed the fact that it was physically impossible to exit the parking deck, and made no effort to acknowledge their role in this situation. Instead, they deflected responsibility entirely and refused to address the tow and booting fees.
We stay at hotels frequently and know it’s common practice to collect license plate information and to properly manage paid parking capacity. The lack of communication, poor planning, and refusal to take responsibility made this an incredibly disappointing experience. We are still baffled as to how we were expected to remove the vehicle from a full deck designed with no turnaround space—no one cared enough to even listen.
I would strongly caution anyone staying here, especially those with oversized vehicles, and urge management to seriously reevaluate their parking procedures and customer service standards.

For the past two weeks, I've stayed in several different hotels with my family. Honestly, most of them left much to be desired, but this hotel met my expectations. The young woman who works the evening shifts is very kind and answered all our questions; she was incredibly helpful. The hotel is clean, and above all, I felt very safe. It has an excellent location.
I can't say the same about the person in the breakfast area, who was very rude every day. She didn't manage that area properly; there was no yogurt, no cream cheese, and when we asked for it, she looked annoyed. The manager should talk to her and get her to change her attitude.

We stayed here from Friday (12/5) until Monday (12/8) for the Pop Warner Nationals Cheerleading competition.
The pool did not work for the entire length of our stay, which seemed a bit insane since they were hosting a hotel full of kids and there was literally nothing else for them to do there. Which was probably a blessing anyways, since even some of the staff that works there said thew would not suggest us using the pool even if it had been functional.
They charged daily for parking, and even initially held double the price of parking as a deposit on my card even though I paid $1100 for a 3 day stay for myself and my daughter.
The wall were very thin and you could hear everything in the hall and the rooms around you. The room was also extremely small. They listed it as a double queen bed room, but there is not way the beds were queen size. They were definitely full size beds.
Our team walked into the lobby of the hotel after competition and a manager automatically shushed us all very loudly when we barely entered the door.
This hotel was not equipped to host an event of this magnitude, and our entire team will be urging the Pop Warner organization not to use this hotel in the future.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Charlotte Uptown with our youth hockey team and a service dog. The hotel was disappointing in several ways. There’s no area for dogs to go potty, and the city itself lacked basic conveniences like trash cans. The location isn’t very walkable to kid-friendly dining, especially in winter.
The indoor pool was tiny and freezing—heated pools would make more sense. Breakfast was awkward, as one kitchen staff members accused a player of grabbing food with his hands when he hadn’t, and felt like we were being watched constantly.
Other issues: the fire alarm went off Saturday morning (kitchen issue), we paid extra for an “upgraded room” (king suite on floor 11) only to find out its an interior room, so the view was of the condo next door, and it shared a wall with the elevator. The elevator sounded like it was having mechanical issues ALL night and was VERY, very loud. On the plus side, the beds were firm and very comfortable.
We parked across the street due to our oversized vehicle. Overall, it was an okay stay, but several things need improvement.
