We've used this hotel multiple times a year for at least four years. It’s unfortunate that the conditions seem to decrease with each stay and our last stay was really disappointing.
Our reservation was for four nights – December 27-31 ($750.00 with AA discount). After checking in Saturday night after 10PM and going up to the room, we found the room door open, the lock causing it not to close. I called the front desk as I dare not enter an unlocked room with my children. They responded quickly and sent someone up who checked the room to make sure it was safe. I appreciate that response, and we entered the room.
Once in the room while placing our luggage and bags down, we were greeted by a Christmas cockroach crawling about. All bags immediately went to the tables. I took a photo and went downstairs for bug spray. They gave me spray and I came back to the room and sprayed the entire room. However, this was one of Santa’s best roaches as this spray had very little effect on him because he was able to move from the bathroom to the foyer to the closet and back to the foyer to the bathroom and finally slowed down in the foyer area. By that time, I’d run out of Clorox wipes (I clean every room at every hotel) and almost emptied my Microban. I requested a vacuum cleaner and when the front desk brought it up, the roach had finally settled, and the guy picked it up. I vacuumed, continued cleaning, and we got ready for bed. Unfortunately, the hotel was sold out, and the Westin seemed so far away at that moment, so I kept cleaning. I am loyal to this hotel because it’s convenient for me....So, here is the rest:
The hall bath had one empty tissue roller, but a trashcan half full of used tissue. Not sure what that was about, but that’s how it was when we came into the room. Not to mention, the water in the toilet seem to always refill with a hinted yellow color.
Both sofas and the desk chair were filthy. Stains everywhere. My imagination runs wild and it really looked like these sofas and chair had seen the best escapades that this suite with the jacuzzi tub could ever imagine. I requested a set of sheets to cover the sofas, which remained on the sofas during the entire stay.
I don’t drink coffee, but if I did, I wouldn’t have used the coffee maker in the room. It was evident that it had been used many times and the remaining coffee stains were all the clues I needed to help me arrive at that conclusion.
The corners of the bar/sink area had trash in both corners. I guess they were keep areas for filth because that’s what I saw.
One of my pet peeves is hair, especially in bathroom areas. I know hair is hard to clean, but I don’t want to see it in the shower or sink area. The shower door had a gray color from soap scum buildup, so I just sprayed it with trusty Clorox clean up.
Another pet peeve – dirty walls, doors, TVs, mirrors, and windows. This room had it all.
Thankfully, the linens on the bed were clean. I forced my kids to both sleep with me (my son usually takes the sofa bed), and when I finally laid down, I looked up to see three pieces of tape on the ceiling with a handprint in the middle. My nine year old daughter noticed the handprint the next night.
Now, for some reason, the one working elevator seems to get extremely dirty during the weekend and does not get cleaned until Monday. I’ve noticed this on previous stays, but it is a magnet for dirt and mud even when it’s dry outside.
Sunday morning – seasoned breakfast lady is very rude and makes up her own rules.
I would like to acknowledge Tia and Mr. Charles in the breakfast area, China in housekeeping, and Felicia and DaSheila who work the front desk. This hotel is usually clean. There are usually a few minor things every other stay, but they are nice and accommodating. Once I clean to my satisfaction, I feel more comfortable, but it is time for some replacements and remodeling to happen at the hotel so that it won’t seem like an indoor Motel 6 with the Hilton name on the front.
