We had planned a trip to Baton Rouge for my son to visit LSU. Eleven days before our scheduled arrival, he received his acceptance to his first-choice school, and we decided to cancel the visit. Unfortunately, this hotel has a 14-day cancellation window, after which cancellations are no longer free.
I attempted to call the hotel on the same day we learned the news. I was placed on hold for 45 minutes without assistance. Hilton Honors also attempted to reach the property and was told the staff were too busy and that we should call back. Over the next six days, I repeatedly tried to contact the hotel to cancel our reservation. Each time I was told they were too busy, the system was down, or I could not be helped.
Today, I finally reached someone. The representative, Gerrick, was dismissive, unhelpful, and unwilling to consider the circumstances. He repeatedly stated that he “had a job to do,” that the room “could have been sold to someone else,” and that Hilton Honors could not assist because “it’s up to the individual hotel.”
Given the lack of responsiveness, poor customer service, and unwillingness to work with guests in good faith, I cannot recommend this property. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Hilton Honors Diamond line.
I enjoyed my short stay at this hotel, and there were definitely some highlights. The lady who checked us in was very polite and welcoming, which made a great first impression of this hotel. Our room was very spacious, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. For a one-night stay, I felt like it offered good value. The breakfast was great—especially the omelet station—and the hotel location is extremely convenient, with Ruth’s Chris and Chili’s Bar & Grill just minutes away.
That said, there are a few areas where the hotel could use some upgrades. The bathroom felt dated, and I noticed dust and rust in several spots throughout the room. The lamp in the room was also filled with rust on its base. I wiped some of the dust down myself, but the room also had a bit of a strange strong cleaning solution type of smell. Bringing a sweet-smelling room spray might help until updates are made.
Overall, it was a comfortable short stay with good amenities, but I personally wouldn’t choose it for more than a day or two until the rooms get some refreshing.
Every time I come here, there is something wrong with the room. This time, the bathroom outlet does not work and will not reset. The cabinet door to the fridge is broken. I check stuff right after I get to th room bc if the room is missing something like a needed clothes iron, you won’t have access to get one until 9 am when I need to be dressed in ready at 8 am. I also do not want to be charged for those broken thing in the room. When I called customer service, it answered then put me on hold forever and never picked up. Then I tried from my cell as opposed to the room phone and it was the same - could not get anyone on the phone. There was a long line at check in and only 1 person working the desk. One guy needed 1 soda and had to wait in that line because there is no separate cashier.
The room smelled very musty even though it had central cooling. A hanger fell off the wall when I tried to hang a towel from it (I was not charged for their shoddy craftsmanship). The bathroom was very small for how large the space was. My brother had trouble sleeping because of the proximity to I10. The pillows felt lumpy. One of the elevators were out and one we rode felt janky. The hot tub had a large scab in it. The AC turned off in the middle of the night for some reason and it got hot, but turned back on when the thermostat was adjusted, maybe it's programmed poorly. The hotel convenience store didn't have milk. The beds were a bit too firm, but that's just my preference. Check in and out was easy.
UPDATE: I got off the phone with customer service, and I’m updating my rating. Hilton customer service explained that when you book through a 3rd party site, the 3rd party is technically paying Hilton and the final bill gets sent to them. I’m not sure if this is what the front desk person was trying to convey but she did not explain that well at all. I’ve called this hotel 3 times about my folio and the first two people never mentioned this to me. I still think whoever i spoke to on the phone today has a terrible attitude, but I don’t think the entire hotels rating should go down because of that.
Warning: Only book Hilton hotels directly with Hilton if you’re on a work trip. You’re company’s booking site is considered a 3rd party,
DO NOT STAY HERE FOR A WORK TRIP- NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. I’ve called multiple times to get a copy of my folio from hotel and never received it. Called again today and front desk was not helpful and was very rude. She was trying to rush me off the phone. I have status with two different hotel chains, wanted to try Hilton, but this experience has changed my mind. I’ve never had this much issues getting a receipt from ANYWHERE I’ve stayed. I’ve stayed at motels with better customer service.
