Botanica, The Wichita Gardens is open year-round and repeat visits offer new surprises as The Gardens change with the seasons. In spring, more than 50,000 tulip bulbs and 120,000 daffodil bulbs bloom along with an assortment of wildflowers and flowering shrubs. Later bloomers include azaleas, irises, roses, peonies, and other perennials. More than 20,000 annuals combine with beautiful perennial color in the summer along with spectacular prairie wildflowers. In autumn, you’ll find asters, liriope, sedum, and more than 5,500 chrysanthemums amongst the backdrop of fall color from trees and shrubs. In winter, The Gardens feature 12,000 pansies, red-twig dogwood, witch hazel, and berried hollies.
As the gardens have grown, so have the educational opportunities. The diversity of the garden display areas provides a rich horticultural and visual learning environment for all visitors. This diversity allows for a consistent growth in the number and variety of youth and continuing education opportunities offered to the community.
Botanica also takes pride in developing the community. In keeping with its mission to promote community development and provide cultural experiences in a pleasant garden setting, Botanica has a wide-array of special events throughout the year. Special events are designed to bring visitors to the Gardens for a variety of activities that involve the community in garden-centered events, that provide entertainment for members, and that encourage attendance. Attendance at these special events accounts for approximately one-fourth of the annual attendance at Botanica.
Plans for continued cultivation include additional educational programming, enhanced special events, and plans for expansion of The Gardens, including consolidated administrative offices and new facilities with the opening of a new events center that opened in 2014, as well as the Chinese Garden of Friendship opened in Spring 2015.
With ever-changing scenery, educational classes for young and old, and special events to entertain and amuse, we invite you to visit Botanica often and take advantage of all that the Gardens have to offer!

Illuminations is always a joy.
It wasn't very busy when my friends & I were there. But, perhaps ensuring all walkways are safe should be top priority so all guests are safe at all times.

The Christmas light show last Friday was fantastic. The kids loved it with lots to do. Food trucks were OK but the lights were just awesome. Highly recommend it for a family outing during Christmas.

We visited the Wichita Botanical Gardens as a family to experience the Christmas lights, bringing along our newest family member who is just four months old, and the experience was absolutely wonderful. The holiday display this year truly exceeded expectations.
We attended last year as well, but this year’s presentation was easily ten times better. The lights were beautifully arranged, thoughtfully designed, and created a magical atmosphere that was enjoyable for all ages. What made our visit especially memorable was the unique setting of an extremely foggy evening. The fog added an almost dreamlike quality to the lights, making the entire experience feel even more special and unforgettable.
The gardens were well-organized, family-friendly, and easy to navigate, even with a baby. It was the perfect outing to create lasting memories during the holiday season.
I would highly recommend the Wichita Botanical Gardens’ Christmas light display to anyone looking for a festive, family-friendly experience. We will absolutely be returning again in the future.

Beautiful lighting for the holidays! Highly recommend the illuminations event. Great for individuals, couples, and families. Truly magical. One caveat.... The pick-up and drop-off for wheelchair users is awful. After dropping us off at the main entrance to get a wheelchair, my husband was directed to a remote parking lot by the south entrance. We were only reunited because of a friendly attendant who went and got my husband at the South entrance and brought him to meet us. Returning the wheelchair was similarly challenging because of road blocks, but another nice attendant walked with us to retrieve it. The organizers need to consider that wheelchair users can't do a long walk from the parking lot and need to have accessible options for drop-off / pick-up available.
