Fitness room is decent. Rooms are accommodating. Things are used, worn and outdated but the hotel is renovating now so it is being addressed.

I am a re occurring guest at this location and have stayed here multiple times without incident. Every time I come to visit, I book a room there. I check in and out without issues. I always make sure the room is in good standings before I leave out of respect for housekeeping staff. My most recent stay was December ( 12/18-12/20). Upon arrival, there were several issues with the room that were clearly unrelated to my stay including, trash left in cans from previous guests, a broken air conditioner cover, An unclean shower, and a broken curtain rod placed on the windowsill. Because I was in town to attend a loved one’s funeral and had never experienced issues at this property before, I assumed this was a housekeeping oversight. I purchased trash bags and cleaning supplies myself and continued my stay without complaint. Checkout was at 12:00 PM. Before checkout, a housekeeper mistakenly entered my room, appeared startled, and immediately apologized. I checked out, received my deposit back, and left without any indication of a problem. At approximately 2:00 PM, I received an alert that a $200 charge attempt was made on my card. I promptly contacted the hotel to inquire why this charge was being attempted. The receptionist became immediately defensive and aggressive, stating that I had smoked in the room, which is completely false. I do not smoke and specifically booked a non-smoking room. When I denied this accusation, she changed her claim and stated that the room was left “filthy,” which is also untrue. When I informed her that I had time-stamped video evidence showing the condition of the room at checkout, she became silent, refused to acknowledge my statement, and then hung up on me. I asked for her name and a manager. She refused to give me that and stated, "The charges didn't go through anyway. Merry Christmas!" In a condescending tone and hung up. I called back once again, and then She transferred me to a voicemail that she said was the manager. I called back to get the corporate number, and she continues to be irate and hang up. Due to the continued hostility, I had to inconvenience a family member to go to the hotel in person to obtain staff names and corporate contact information. At that time, the receptionist claimed it took housekeeping two hours to clean the room and that butter was smeared on the walls, which directly contradicts the time-stamped video evidence I possess. Despite offering to provide this proof, the staff member refused to view it. I was later informed that the receptionist’s name was Terri, and the manager’s name was Penny. This entire situation caused unnecessary stress during an already emotionally difficult time and appears to be based on fabricated accusations made after checkout. As a loyal and repeat customer, I found this behavior unacceptable, disrespectful, and deeply disappointing. Corporate will be contacted.

The Homewood Suites by Hilton in Decatur has some good qualities, but it’s definitely showing its age. The rooms feel old and outdated, and there were visible stains on the couch and carpet, which took away from the overall comfort. On the positive side, the beds are very comfortable, and having a kitchen in the room is a nice convenience, especially for longer stays. I was disappointed to find that Homewood no longer offers their bold coffee option — it was always a favorite of mine, and I don’t really understand why they discontinued it. The breakfast was just okay, nothing special. The hotel is undergoing a much-needed remodel, which is good news because it really does need the update. The outdoor area with the fire pit is by far the best part of the property — a great spot to relax in the evening. Overall, a decent stay, but definitely ready for a refresh.
